Duncan Smith: I started driving 20 years ago, at a time when there was a significant and very visible road safety campaign. The late Gay Byrne led the charge in terms of being front of house. Road death numbers were up at approximately 400 or 500 year on year but then there was a downward trend. I do not have the figures in front of me but I looked at them in advance of the meeting last week....
