Now the cathaoirleach, who is the first woman cathaoirleach in approximately 20 years, has 17 men on the council and she will be the only woman until Ms Wallace returns.

Jennifer Murnane O'Connor: I say to every woman, but particularly those in politics, because that is my area, that it is so rewarding to be a politician, be it a councillor, who plays a huge part in people's lives, a Senator, a Deputy, a Minister or a Member of the European Parliament. It changes lives. We really need to get that message out and give women the chances. As Ms Holt said, there are challenges.
