- Committee on Public Petitions: Consideration of Public Petition on Saving the Services of the Owenacurra Centre in Cork: Discussion. (7 Jul 2022)
Pat Buckley: That is where it breaks down. I am in favour of Senator Buttimer's suggestion. In our game, we listen to both sides of the story and somewhere in the middle is the truth. My bugbear is someone else being blamed for a body's failings over the years. My strong opinion is based on evidence that we have dating back to 2016, as well as the mix and match of reports. When we request fire safety...
- Committee on Public Petitions: Consideration of Public Petition on Saving the Services of the Owenacurra Centre in Cork: Discussion. (7 Jul 2022)
Pat Buckley: I thank our guests. I also thank the committee for listening and giving them a fair crack of the whip. Senator Buttimer was on the previous petitions committee with me. When we established this committee, it was known as "lastchance.com". The voices of the people we represent should be heard. If this is lastchance.com, our guests can see how strong the committee is. Listening to people...
- Committee on Public Petitions: Consideration of Public Petitions Received (7 Jul 2022)
Pat Buckley: I can see how difficult it is. We talked about tourism in the first half of this meeting and about promoting it. We have thatched houses throughout the country for which owners cannot get insurance plus the fact a house cannot be hold without insurance. I would like that to be revisited when the correspondence is returned next year.
- Committee on Public Petitions: Consideration of Public Petitions Received (7 Jul 2022)
Pat Buckley: That is going to Kildare County Council, back to the petitioner and the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.
- Committee on Public Petitions: Consideration of Public Petitions Received (7 Jul 2022)
Pat Buckley: We should revisit it.
- Committee on Public Petitions: Consideration of Public Petitions Received (7 Jul 2022)
Pat Buckley: I am happy with that.
- Committee on Public Petitions: Consideration of Public Petition on Adding Chefs to the Critical Skills List Now to Save Irish Hospitality: Discussion (7 Jul 2022)
Pat Buckley: I listened to how passionate Mr. Nizam Bin Nayan is. We need a strong hospitality sector that complements the tourism sector. That is a no-brainer. I was lucky enough to watch maybe an hour and a half of the pro-am in Adare during the week. There was general commentary from all the television stations about how the people reacted, how the crowds in Ireland, the scenery and so on are...
- Cost of Disability: Motion [Private Members] (6 Jul 2022)
Pat Buckley: I welcome the opportunity to speak on this motion this morning. I commend Deputy Cairns and the Social Democrats on bringing this motion forward. I also welcome the people in the Gallery. I remember being here in 2018 when we ratified the UNCRPD, although the optional protocol was kind of left out of it. I listened to all the speakers today. From my own experience, unfortunately, a...

To ask the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform if his attention has been drawn to a pre-budget 2023 submission from an organisation (details supplied) asking for an investment of €941,000 for in-home care, outreach care and mental health supports for children and adults with epidermolysis bullosa; and if he will make a statement on the matter. - Back to School Costs: Motion [Private Members] (5 Jul 2022)
Pat Buckley: I thank Deputy Ó Laoghaire for bringing forward this extremely important motion. Back-to-school costs each year shamefully expose the deep divide that exists in our society between rich and poor. What sickens me to the stomach at this time of the year is thinking of children who are all too aware of what their parents are facing and what they have to struggle with, and they can do...
- Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: School Admissions (30 Jun 2022)
Pat Buckley: I thank Deputy Stanton for raising the very important issue of extra places in secondary schools. I welcome everything the Minister has said. The development of the campus in Carrigtwohill is very positive. She mentioned Youghal, Cobh and a couple of other areas. Doing some maths quickly, I see there are to be approximately 3,000 extra places. At least the Department has acknowledged...
- Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Special Educational Needs (30 Jun 2022)
Pat Buckley: I thank Deputy Stanton for raising this important question regarding new special schools in Midleton. I have listened to the Minister of State's replies. I welcome anything positive but, as Deputy Stanton said, Glanmire to Rochestown is a long way with traffic, the tunnel and the whole lot for families to travel. We have massive population growth in east Cork, predominantly on the Midleton...
- Written Answers — Department of Education and Skills: School Funding (30 Jun 2022)
Pat Buckley: 184. [35036/22]

Pat Buckley: 175. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport the reason that a person (details supplied) cannot change their driver licence for an Irish driver licence; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [33789/22]
- Our Lady's Hospital Navan Emergency Services: Motion [Private Members] (21 Jun 2022)
Pat Buckley: I listened to the response of both Ministers earlier. I commend my Meath colleagues on bringing this motion forward tonight. The downgrading of any services and centralising emergency departments only cause a funnel and it is like gridlock, which I heard some of the earlier speakers say. In May, the Minister visited Cork where the average waiting time at Cork University Hospital, CUH,...

Pat Buckley: 573. To ask the Minister for Education and Skills if her Department has plans to increase funding to schools to cover the ever-rising cost of lighting and heating owing to the rising costs of fuel; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [32531/22]
- Written Answers — Department of Education and Skills: National Educational Psychological Service (21 Jun 2022)
Pat Buckley: 574. To ask the Minister for Education and Skills if her Department has plans to increase NEPS services across the State and reinstate and expand the in-school and early years therapy support demonstration project; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [32532/22]
- Written Answers — Department of Education and Skills: Departmental Funding (21 Jun 2022)
Pat Buckley: 575. To ask the Minister for Education and Skills if her Department has plans to increase or fund an initial grant of €20 per pupil for onsite counselling services in primary and specials schools this year and will; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [32533/22]
- Energy Security: Motion [Private Members] (15 Jun 2022)
Pat Buckley: The boat sailed years ago. This Government and previous Governments have not listened to the Opposition parties in this House. As was mentioned, in the previous Dáil, of which I was a Member, Deputy Stanley tried to introduce a microgeneration scheme. Individuals and small businesses acted on this but they still cannot get excess electricity back into the grid or sell it to the grid....
