Michelle Mulherin: I thank the Acting Chairman for his forbearance and for allowing me to speak. This is good legislation and I ask the Minister to address the issue of a minimum term for murder and reform the system to bring some justice.

Michelle Mulherin: It does not relate to the amendment before us but I would like the Minister to give it some consideration. I will not get into it in depth. It is a concern regarding the power of authorised persons, including officers in the national parks and wildlife section.

What is the official advice of the National Parks and Wildlife Service on the proposal of hedgerow cutting in August and the proposals regarding the burning of vegetation, specifically the scientific basis for these?
