- Other Questions: Waterways Ireland Remit (6 Mar 2014)
Anthony Lawlor: I welcome the Minister. Deputy Martin Heydon and Deputy Bernard J. Durkan have met boat dwellers on the canals. We are anxious to get a resolution to the issue. The proposals as put forward by Waterways Ireland were not acceptable from a financial point of view and from the perspective of the boat dwellers staying in situ. They were not suitable at all. I hope the Minister will come...
- Other Questions: Waterways Ireland Remit (6 Mar 2014)
Anthony Lawlor: I welcome the Minister's response. It is noteworthy that there were more than 2,000 submissions. I gather that most of those people have attended a number of meetings in my constituency where there are two canals and the Barrow system. Whether the bulk of the submissions are in favour of an increase in the rate or in favour of some of the proposed regulations, the scale of what is being...
- Protection of Residential Mortgage Account Holders Bill 2014: Second Stage [Private Members] (4 Mar 2014)
Anthony Lawlor: I compliment Deputy Michael McGrath on bringing forward this legislation. In the context of the debate in the last couple of weeks on the loan books of the former IBRC, a good strong debate on this is welcome. As the Minister said earlier, little did we realise that when banks were issuing bonds to generate capital so they could lend on further, these bonds were secured on mortgages. One...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Action Plan for Jobs: Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation (4 Mar 2014)
Anthony Lawlor: In response to Deputy Conaghan’s point, there is an action in the plan on fish processing, with a target of approximately 100 jobs. It is great that the committee has a major input into this plan. We have talked a lot here about youth entrepreneurship. Will the Minister have some way of measuring the take-up of the micro-finance, and come back to us if it needs to be reformed or...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Forthcoming Competitiveness Council: Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation (18 Feb 2014)
Anthony Lawlor: I welcome the Minister and wish him the best of luck at the Competitiveness Council. I understand negotiations are ongoing between the United States and the European Union on the proposed Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership, TTIP. Colleagues have outlined the concerns regarding Ireland's ability to compete, particularly in high energy sectors. The energy cost differential...
- Early Childhood Care and Education: Motion (Resumed) [Private Members] (12 Feb 2014)
Anthony Lawlor: I welcome this debate because it gives us an opportunity to speak once again about the opportunistic approach Fianna Fáil takes to everything. I will read a quote from October 2007, when the community child care programme was introduced. It was said to be "seriously flawed" and that it "will force low income parents to stop working as they won't be able to afford to pay for creche...
- Early Childhood Care and Education: Motion (Resumed) [Private Members] (12 Feb 2014)
Anthony Lawlor: If the Deputy read the Standing Orders, he might understand what is going on. The point I was making was that when Fianna Fáil was in power, its child care policies were quite simple - they were non-existent. It was a real crisis at the time because, if both parents were working, nothing could be given to them even if they were paying excessively for child care. There were neither tax...
