Timmy Dooley: I thank Senator Ormonde for sharing time and welcome the Minister. I am filling in for Senator Walsh who sends his apologies. He is unable to be here today as he is attending a family funeral, but I will pass on the Minister's comments to him. I compliment the Minister on his up-front analysis of the situation. It is always welcome to hear a Minister outline the position and admit the figures...
- Seanad: Crime Levels: Statements. (3 Apr 2003)
Timmy Dooley: There is no doubt that the figures are worrying and I will not labour that point because the Minister is aware of the issues. Despite the fact that the figures are worrying, the Minister has been working to ensure that when crime is committed, the criminal law is adequate to deal with it. An examination of the record of this Government and the previous Administration will show that there are...
- Seanad: Crime Levels: Statements. (3 Apr 2003)
Timmy Dooley: It meant there were not large numbers coming out on the streets at the same time. To deal with this we must change the culture and position of alcohol in society. Like any culture, it will be difficult to change because the desire to have a drink is deep-rooted in our tradition and we are recognised as a nation fond of a tipple. That is fine but young people have no respect for alcohol. In...
- Seanad: Order of Business. (1 Apr 2003)
Timmy Dooley: I join Senator O'Brien in asking the Leader to arrange a debate on insurance. Any of us who saw the television programme on the subject the other night produced by RTE would be shocked by the level of fraud that there seems to be in the sector. It is no wonder that insurance premiums are at the level they are at in the light of what is going on in that practice. A debate on the sector would...

- Seanad: Foreign Conflicts: Motion. (21 Mar 2003)
Timmy Dooley: I thank Senator Daly for sharing time with me, and I will be as brief as possible. It is with considerable regret that we are discussing this issue while a war is taking place. That is a reflection of a failure within the UN and considerable division in the European Community, about which we should all be disappointed. It has been suggested by elements on the opposite side of the House and...

Timmy Dooley: The Senator should get on with the debate. The House can sit until 8 a.m. if necessary.
- Seanad: Order of Business. (27 Feb 2003)
Timmy Dooley: The Senator is in the Seanad now, not the county council.
- Seanad: Order of Business. (27 Feb 2003)
Timmy Dooley: I join Senator O'Toole in calling for a debate on auctioneers because there is an element of innuendo in this House. Senator Ross has tabled a motion in condemnation of auctioneers. Many of us know some fine auctioneers. Certainly any of the experiences or stories that I have heard have always been in support of auctioneers and a debate would help to clarify this matter.
- Seanad: Order of Business. (27 Feb 2003)
Timmy Dooley: No, I am not.
- Seanad: Suicide Incidence: Statements. (27 Feb 2003)
Timmy Dooley: I welcome the Minister of State, whose contribution showed that he has a real grasp of this issue. I agree with Senator Ryan that it is good to see a debate in the House displaying consensus on the social concern about the topic. It is a timely discussion.
- Seanad: Order of Business. (18 Feb 2003)
Timmy Dooley: I join Senator Scanlon in calling for the Minister for the Environment and Local Government to come to the House to discuss the issue of Dúchas. Difficulties arose at the weekend, when members of Dúchas were seen arguing with representatives of other archaeological bodies with regard to the Carrickmines interchange on the M50 motorway. Everyone realises that the latter is of vital importance.
