Seanad: Water Fluoridation: Motion (30 Jan 2013)

David Norris: I will finish on this. It is something that originates from the wet scrubbing systems of the super-phosphate fertiliser industry. We import it from the Netherlands, a country that has banned fluoridation, along with so many other countries in Europe.

Seanad: Water Fluoridation: Motion (30 Jan 2013)

Seanad: Water Fluoridation: Motion (30 Jan 2013)

Seanad: Water Fluoridation: Motion (30 Jan 2013)

David Norris: I very much regret that because if one cannot use this House to seek a review of an issue that requires review, it shows an unnaturally defensive stance. It is not my intention in any sense to impugn the reputation or motives of any of those on either side, including those who consider it to be extremely important to have fluoridation in the water. However, never in 25 years of raising...

Seanad: Water Fluoridation: Motion (30 Jan 2013)

David Norris: I move: That Seanad Éireann calls on the Minister for Health to review the situation concerning fluoridation of water in the Republic of Ireland.I welcome the Minister of State, who is an old friend and colleague. It is appropriate we take this measure in Seanad Éireann because it is, by and large, a forum in which things can be discussed in a rational manner and without too much hot air....

Fianna Fáil seems to be in the process of learning its lesson, and if the Government wants to learn a lesson, it should consider what happened to that party at the last election. It may happen to the Government parties as they may be continuing on the same path.

Seanad: Order of Business (30 Jan 2013)

David Norris: When will there be a debate on the matter as it seems to distort Government policy? We were told there would be a policy of centres of excellence-----

Seanad: Order of Business (30 Jan 2013)

David Norris: -----and people around the country were prepared to sacrifice their personal interests in order to support the policy in the interests of the citizens. The HSE does not seem to know that the position is being changed as the colleagues of Ministers - who seem to have persuaded the Minister in charge of public expenditure - turn up at announcements and the launching of projects. Meanwhile,...

Seanad: Order of Business (30 Jan 2013)

David Norris: I hope people and politicians will continue to broaden this issue and take in the most significant change to the Constitution in my lifetime, the abolition of an entire arm of governance.

Seanad: Order of Business (30 Jan 2013)

David Norris: That sounds like hypocrisy to me.

Seanad: Order of Business (30 Jan 2013)

David Norris: That sounds like an admission.

Seanad: Order of Business (30 Jan 2013)

David Norris: The Senator is basically saying that corruption exists-----
