Robert Troy: I thank our four guests for sharing their very personal stories. While I was not here in the committee room, I was tuned into proceedings in my office upstairs. I listened attentively to each and every one of their stories. I thank them for sharing them with us. In life, we are all framed or influenced by our own past experiences. Death is something everyone experiences at some stage...

Robert Troy: I ask the Minister for an update on the N4 Mulllingar to Roosky scheme. Back in 2010, the preferred route corridor was published, after three years of work was done and €4 million was spent. The scheme was suspended at that stage and recommenced back in 2018. I would appreciate it if the Minister could give me an update on it today.
- Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Road Projects (5 Oct 2023)
Robert Troy: This route is committed to as part of the NDP. It is a named route, so we need to see it progress. The Minister spoke about the €200,000 that was allocated this year to finalise phase 2, which is the route selection phase, but unfortunately new rules published by the Department in June of this year providing that a transport appraisal framework must be concluded mean that the...
- Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Road Projects (5 Oct 2023)
Robert Troy: I thank the Minister for his commitment that if additional funding is needed to conclude route selection this year, it will be forthcoming. That is very welcome. I accept that all roads cannot be built at the one time but this road requires €3 million to allow it to move to the next stage. It needs to move to the next stage because it is an extremely busy road and it is essential...

- School Transport 2023-2024: Statements (3 Oct 2023)
Robert Troy: I welcome the opportunity to contribute to this debate. School transport, as many have said, is a critical service, particularly in rural constituencies and yet still, every year, as the previous speaker has said, we are in here in September or even October talking about the shortcomings of this critical scheme. Last year, there was a review promised. That review was promised to be...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Assisted Dying: Ethics of End-of-Life Care: Discussion (3 Oct 2023)
Robert Troy: I thank our witnesses. The key thing here is the requirement that the patient is in insufferable pain, the experience of suffering and how that is determined. One person's insufferable pain may not necessarily be the same as another's. I think everyone is agreed that it is inherently subjective. Dr. McKeown O'Donovan talked about autonomy and the ability to decide what to do with one's...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Assisted Dying: Assisted Dying in the United States: Discussion (3 Oct 2023)
Robert Troy: I thank our witnesses. We are dealing with what is an extremely emotive topic, when we are talking about life and death. There are times when we all might take offence at someone else's opinions but we have to respect everybody's opinions nevertheless and appreciate the good faith in which they are given. I am one who is coming to this debate totally undecided about what way I will...
