- Other Questions: Turf Cutting Issues (29 Jan 2014)
Sandra McLellan: Coolrain bog is too small an area to restore as a wet active raised bog. We, in particular Deputy Stanley, are putting forward a reasonable solution to have a larger SAC retained and, accordingly, get a better outcome for both turf-cutters and the environment. Will the Minister seriously consider this?

Sandra McLellan: I have been looking at the Government's long-term plan for bogs-----
- Other Questions: Turf Cutting Issues (29 Jan 2014)
Sandra McLellan: Coolrain bog is one of the 53 bogs referred to by the Minister and no solution has been put forward to accommodate the 70 or more turf cutters on it. Scientific research shows that the bog only ranks as moderate in terms of habitat quality and that out of a total of 51 ha of raised bog, less than one hectare can be restored. This is based on a survey conducted in 2003 and does not take into...
- Ceisteanna - Questions - Priority Questions: City of Culture Initiative (29 Jan 2014)
Sandra McLellan: I raised the issue of funding in September and there were indications that all was not well. It is important it runs smoothly to show Limerick to its best potential. The Minister informed the House the actions he has taken to ensure he is up to speed and in touch for the duration of the city of culture programme. What structures have been put in place to ensure there is no repeat of the...

- Ceisteanna - Questions - Priority Questions: City of Culture Initiative (29 Jan 2014)
Sandra McLellan: I thank the Minister for his response. This is the first discussion we have had in the Dáil on this important issue since the Christmas recess. By his own account the Minister found out about the crisis of confidence in the city of culture committee in the media as this occurred during the holiday period. Surely he had been in touch on a regular basis in the run in to the launch in...

[4011/14]
- Health Services: Motion [Private Members] (28 Jan 2014)
Sandra McLellan: I welcome the opportunity of this Private Members' motion to address the situation in our public health service and the total inadequacy of this Government's budget for health and of the HSE's 2014 service plan. Sinn Féin will support the motion in the name of the Fianna Fáil Deputies as far as it goes. We agree, as the motion states, that the 2014 national service plan of the HSE...

Vote 39 - Health Service Executive (Revised) (28 Jan 2014) Sandra McLellan: I welcome the Minister and his officials and again convey apologies on behalf of Deputy O Caoláin who cannot be here today. I am substituting for him. The post-budget period in the month of January has seen intensive engagements in the media and in this committee on the overall health budget and on the HSE 2014 service plan. Recently, we had the Minister and HSE officials here for...
- Committee on Health and Children: Select Sub-Committee on Health: Estimates for Public Services 2014
Vote 38 - Department of Health (Revised)
Vote 39 - Health Service Executive (Revised) (28 Jan 2014) Sandra McLellan: The ongoing recruitment embargo and job cuts will have a seriously damaging effect. A further 2,600 whole-time equivalents are to go in 2014, in addition to the 12,500 that have gone since 2007. The entire management of health funding and health services by this Minister and this Government is called into question by their handling of primary care. The service plan refers to the vision for...

- Topical Issue Debate: Disability Support Services Provision (23 Jan 2014)
Sandra McLellan: I thank the Minister for his response, but I am extremely disappointed. This is a serious issue and it was important to discuss it here today. To be honest, I do not care whose remit it comes under. Deputy Deenihan is the Minister and I believe he can intervene and appeal to him to do so. He can, at least, discuss the issue with the council to find out what else it will do to support...

- Oireachtas (Ministerial and Parliamentary Offices) (Amendment) Bill 2013 [Seanad]: Second Stage (23 Jan 2014)
Sandra McLellan: While we question the assertion by the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform that the Government is delivering fundamental change in democratic and public governance, we none the less welcome the introduction of this legislation. The Bill deals with a number of anomalies in the political system relating to pay, State funding of politics and accountability. State funding of political...
