Terry Leyden: I welcome the Minister of State, Deputy John Paul Phelan, to the House and thank him for coming. I support the Private Members' Bill from my colleague, Senator Robbie Gallagher, and congratulate him on bringing the Bill before the House. I welcome in the Gallery Mr. Gus O'Gorman and his son, Cathal, who were instrumental in bringing this to the fore. They fought very bravely in the Supreme...

Seanad: Landlord and Tenant (Ground Rents) (Amendment) Bill 2017: Second Stage (29 Nov 2017)

Terry Leyden: Yes, and there is a new approach to politics. The weekend's events were difficult for everyone involved and I am thankful we are not facing a general election before Christmas and we all came to an agreement at the end of the day. We are back in business and the confidence and supply is still there. The agreement will be supported and I hope there will not be any other difficulties.

Seanad: Landlord and Tenant (Ground Rents) (Amendment) Bill 2017: Second Stage (29 Nov 2017)

Seanad: Landlord and Tenant (Ground Rents) (Amendment) Bill 2017: Second Stage (29 Nov 2017)

Terry Leyden: Yes. You have work in a committee and many people would have been delighted if it had collapsed. That is neither here nor there. Some people might have seen the bright side.

Seanad: Landlord and Tenant (Ground Rents) (Amendment) Bill 2017: Second Stage (29 Nov 2017)

Terry Leyden: Not really. They are not irrelevant. I wish this Bill success. In his first term as Senator, it is marvellous for Senator Gallagher to get this Bill through. I hope it will get through the Dáil. It is very positive work. Mr. Gus O'Gorman and his son, Cathal, deserve great credit for the efforts they made in trying to vindicate their rights as Irish citizens. Well done. This is a...

Seanad: Climate Action and Low Carbon Development Act 2015: Statements (29 Nov 2017)

Terry Leyden: I welcome the Minister, Deputy Denis Naughten, to the House and thank him for a very comprehensive statement on climate action and low-carbon development. Fianna Fáil recognises that climate change is one of the most, if not the most, pressing moral and practical challenges of our generation. We need to look no further than the recent floods in Inishowen, the widespread drought in...

Terry Leyden: Is it a help?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment: Post Office Network: Discussion (Resumed) (28 Nov 2017)

Terry Leyden: As the witnesses know, a report was issued today on television licences. There was not particularly good news for An Post in so far as the collection service is concerned. As a former Minister of State at the Department of Posts and Telegraphs, I have always fought very strongly for An Post to get the contract for collection. Unfortunately, however, the collection misses a lot of people....

Seanad: Order of Business (22 Nov 2017)

Terry Leyden: I request the Leader of the House to arrange for the Minister for Finance and Public Expenditure and Reform to come to the House to discuss the reduction in the interest paid for prize bonds. The National Treasury Management Agency has decided to again reduce the prize pool available for prize bond owners. It reduced the number of chances to become a millionaire from six opportunities per...

Seanad: Order of Business (22 Nov 2017)

Terry Leyden: Broadcasting the draw would mean people would know who won the prize. I wish to make a further suggestion. The yearly payout was €28 million but it is now €15.5 million and a prize bond costs about €25.
