Order of Business (18 Dec 2014)

Order of Business (18 Dec 2014)

Dara Calleary: Is the Tánaiste going to sing?

Order of Business (18 Dec 2014)

Dara Calleary: Guím beannachtaí na Nollag agus athbhliain fé mhaise ar an Tánaiste agus ar mo chomhghleacaithe sa Teach seo agus sa Seanad. I wish the Tánaiste and her colleagues in this House and the other House and their families every good wish for Christmas and the New Year. While we disagree on many things in this Chamber, the one thing we are agreed on is that we are very...

Leaders' Questions (18 Dec 2014)

Dara Calleary: If one can be found.

Leaders' Questions (18 Dec 2014)

Dara Calleary: That is the problem. It only hears what it chooses to hear.

Leaders' Questions (18 Dec 2014)

Dara Calleary: This is a most appalling situation for the woman, her baby and her family. Will the Tánaiste and the House join me in asking those on either side of this debate to remember that there is a family at the centre of this and that whatever discussion and debate we have on this case in the next few days should put dignity at the heart of it? The case should not be used by any side to...

Leaders' Questions (18 Dec 2014)

Dara Calleary: This morning's newspapers and last night's news programmes carried heartbreaking reports about an evolving situation in a hospital in the midlands. Our thoughts must be with the family of the woman involved. When asked about the situation yesterday, the Taoiseach stated that he was aware of the case and that, while it was difficult, now is not the time for constitutional change. On Tuesday...

[48139/14]

Other Questions: Consumer Protection (17 Dec 2014)

Dara Calleary: What proposals does the Minister have for the report of the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission on the cost of poor customer service and faulty goods which it puts at €500 million a year? That sum would fund many rugby teams and scientists. More importantly, it is money taken out of people's pockets for bad service. This issue needs to be tackled.

Other Questions: Consumer Protection (17 Dec 2014)

Dara Calleary: This is a welcome report, but it is key that the consumer protection side of the commission stand up and use it. When one drills down, everyone can identify with the fact that one in ten consumers who responded to the survey spent more than ten hours trying to solve a problem. Up to 50% of the issues were never actually resolved. I challenge anyone not to identify with the statistic that...

Other Questions: Consumer Protection (17 Dec 2014)

Dara Calleary: With the consultation paper, what plans does the Minister have for making legislation more relevant to Internet purchasing, giving consumer rights and protection to those who buy over the Internet who then have problems because, unknown to them at the time they purchased, the provider was based outside the jurisdiction? Is there any work under way at EU level to give EU-wide protection to...

Other Questions: Job Creation (17 Dec 2014)

Dara Calleary: One for everybody in the audience.
