- Seanad: Report of Advisory Group on Small Business: Statements (Resumed) (19 Jan 2012)
Denis O'Donovan: I remind the House that those who have spoken in the debate cannot do so again. I have to be careful because if someone speaks twice during a debate, it is a major breach of protocol.
- Seanad: Report of Advisory Group on Small Business: Statements (Resumed) (19 Jan 2012)
Denis O'Donovan: I welcome this debate and welcome the Minister of State to the House. My main bone of contention is the lack of credit from the banks. I will tell a brief story. In 1977, my father had just died and I, armed with an honours law degree, approached three banks with my mother, God be good to her, seeking to borrow £100 to send me to Dublin to the law school there at the time. We were...

- Seanad: Order of Business (12 Jan 2012)
Denis O'Donovan: I compliment the Minister, Deputy Quinn, on his U-turn regarding DEIS schools, approximately 20 of which are in my constituency. It seems that the sideline tactics of Labour Party Deputies and Senators at parliamentary party level have reaped rewards. That is a welcome and important movement. I would like to ask the Leader for a specific debate on the aquaculture and mariculture industries....

Denis O'Donovan: I remind Senators that we are due to conclude at 12.25 p.m. and the Minister of State must reply. Some Members might need to share time. Unfortunately, the festive Order of Business ran a little long and the Minister of State was waiting outside. It is not her fault.

- Seanad: Order of Business (16 Dec 2011)
Denis O'Donovan: I thank the Cathaoirleach for his courtesy as my boss in this House. I would like to thank the real pistons of the engine of operation, Jody and Deirdre, all the staff, my colleagues and the Leader in particular. I have said it before that Senator Maurice Cummins has brought a new style to this House. With a new boat or ship, there is a great danger in opening up the throttle too much...

- Seanad: Order of Business (16 Dec 2011)
Denis O'Donovan: When we come back in the new year, we should avoid the icebergs but we should open up the throttle a little bit more. It is my fourth term as a Member of the Seanad and it is one of the finest I have seen. There is a lot more to give in this Seanad. Under the stewardship of Senator Cummins, that can be achieved. Yesterday, I rang an elderly lady to wish her a happy Christmas. I did not...
