- Written Answers — Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection: Carer's Allowance Appeals (9 Apr 2019)

- Ceisteanna ar Reachtaíocht a Gealladh - Questions on Promised Legislation (4 Apr 2019)
Peter Fitzpatrick: Some 130 members of the Defence Forces are unable to return home today as scheduled after a tour of duty in the Golan Heights. They were scheduled to fly from Syria to Beruit and then on to Dublin. This is an absolute disgrace. I am a former member of the 27th Battalion, and it seems to me that Army personnel are being treated as second class citizens.
- Ceisteanna ar Reachtaíocht a Gealladh - Questions on Promised Legislation (4 Apr 2019)
Peter Fitzpatrick: Morale is at an all-time low. Numbers are at an all-time low. The Tánaiste is a former Minister of Defence, and I expect a lot more from this Government. Last Tuesday I read an article in a newspaper by an ex-officer of the 27th Battalion. The officer said that nobody joins the Army to get rich, but neither do they join the Army to qualify for family income support. Please stop...
- Written Answers — Department of Health: Services for People with Disabilities (3 Apr 2019)
Peter Fitzpatrick: 165. To ask the Minister for Health his plans to introduce proof of disability as a form of identification (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15566/19]
- Sea-Fisheries (Amendment) Bill 2017 [Seanad]: Committee and Remaining Stages (28 Mar 2019)
Peter Fitzpatrick: I asked the Minister earlier if Dundalk Bay can sustain more boats. He indicated that is to do with management and has nothing to do with this legislation. However, would the Minister not put management in place before the Bill? There is no point in it if the six-mile zone is not capable of facilitating the boats. Was nothing done to check this out? Is the Minister stating that no...
- Sea-Fisheries (Amendment) Bill 2017 [Seanad]: Committee and Remaining Stages (28 Mar 2019)
Peter Fitzpatrick: I referred earlier to UK and European citizens coming who are not resident in either Northern Ireland or Ireland and I asked the Minister whether there was any loophole whereby they could get licences. In fairness, I felt the Minister brushed me off and started to talk about management and everything else. I maintain that the people who know best are the fishermen themselves. They have...
- Sea-Fisheries (Amendment) Bill 2017: Second Stage (28 Mar 2019)
Peter Fitzpatrick: I asked the Minister about UK and EU citizens coming to Northern Ireland or the Republic, looking for licences. It does not seem to be covered in the Bill. Is that a loophole? I also asked if Dundalk Bay is capable of dealing with more boats but the Minister did not answer that either.
- Sea-Fisheries (Amendment) Bill 2017: Second Stage (28 Mar 2019)
Peter Fitzpatrick: It was hoped that this Bill was at least delayed until the outcome of Brexit was known. There was time to have proper consultation with stakeholders. Why did the Minister not consult the Irish fishermen? Why did he refuse to meet them? Why did he not consult the Marine Institute to see if the grounds most affected, such as Dundalk Bay, can sustain more fishing boats? What about the...
- Ceisteanna ar Reachtaíocht a Gealladh - Questions on Promised Legislation (28 Mar 2019)
Peter Fitzpatrick: A green card is an internationally recognised insurance document which provides proof of the minimum compulsory motor insurance coverage required by the country a person is visiting. This green card demonstrates to relevant authorities that a vehicle being driven in their jurisdiction has valid motor insurance. At present, there is no requirement to have a green card when driving in...
- Written Answers — Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection: Public Services Card (26 Mar 2019)
Peter Fitzpatrick: 1294. To ask the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection her plans to introduce proof of disability allowance on the public services card (details supplied); and if she will make a statement on the matter. [13671/19]
- Ceisteanna ar Reachtaíocht a Gealladh - Questions on Promised Legislation (13 Mar 2019)
Peter Fitzpatrick: Irish fishing vessels cannot fish within 12 miles of the Isle of Man and are excluded from fishing inside the six-mile exclusion zone around the entire British coast but the Minister wants to allow UK vessels access to Ireland's six-mile fisheries exclusion zone. This is unacceptable to the Irish fishing industry. The Minister also stated that all Irish-registered fishing vessels of 18 m and...
- National Children's Hospital: Motion [Private Members] (12 Mar 2019)
Peter Fitzpatrick: In supporting the motion, I want to raise awareness of a couple of matters that are causing me and my constituents great concern. At a meeting in my constituency office in Dundalk not long ago about restrictions in services offered at our local hospital, Louth County Hospital, one of my constituents asked me why in Ireland we have the most beautiful civic offices and public buildings but...
- An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (5 Mar 2019)
Peter Fitzpatrick: I have raised the issue of local needs guidelines numerous times. Since 2005, our local authorities have been using the same guidelines. In 2016, the Government informed the EU that it would be reviewing the local needs situation. On 22 January, the Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government, Deputy Eoghan Murphy, stated that this had to do with the Flemish decree, his Department...
- Written Answers — Department of Health: Hospital Appointments Status (5 Mar 2019)
Peter Fitzpatrick: 310. To ask the Minister for Health when a person (details supplied) will receive urgently required surgery; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10469/19]
- Withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union (Consequential Provisions) Bill 2019: Second Stage (Resumed) (28 Feb 2019)
Peter Fitzpatrick: I give my support to this legislation and commend the work done by the Tánaiste, Deputy Coveney, and the Minister of State with responsibility for European affairs, Deputy McEntee. I think they have done a great job. Coming from Dundalk, which is a Border town, it is important that the common travel area remains. It is a long-standing arrangement between Ireland and the UK that...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality: Withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union (Consequential Provisions) Bill 2019: Discussion (27 Feb 2019)
Peter Fitzpatrick: I thank the Minister and his officials for attending. The thing that comes to my mind the whole time is the Good Friday Agreement. Since it came into operation, the peace this island has enjoyed has been unprecedented. Coming from the Border town of Dundalk, I, more than most, know the problems people had during the Troubles and I think it fantastic that this has happened. The Chief...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality: Withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union (Consequential Provisions) Bill 2019: Discussion (27 Feb 2019)
Peter Fitzpatrick: The Minister said in his opening statement that the two main areas on which there would be a focus were extradition and immigration, which are, to be fair, high risk areas. I have seen at first hand what happens in the Border area. I have seen at first hand gardaí pulling traffic from the main motorway to side roads. I commend the Government on the reopening of Templemore, which was a...
