- Business of Dáil (5 May 2016)
Mary Lou McDonald: Will the Minister of State speak up? We cannot hear.
- Business of Dáil (5 May 2016)
Mary Lou McDonald: Yesterday, I raised the issue of statements on crime and Garda resourcing, and I am pleased to see that we are having those statements and that debate today. It is, however, very disappointing and inexplicable that mental health and statements on the Irish language got written out of the schedule. It does not make any sense to do that and then to ask the House to rise at 4.30 p.m. I put it...

Mary Lou McDonald: Can I ask the obvious question?
- Business of Dáil (4 May 2016)
Mary Lou McDonald: It is this-----
- Business of Dáil (4 May 2016)
Mary Lou McDonald: It is so obvious that it is not obvious to the Fianna Fáil benches.
- Business of Dáil (4 May 2016)
Mary Lou McDonald: Can we expect a vote tomorrow to elect a Taoiseach? It is some 68 days or almost ten weeks since polling day. Will an Administration be formed or will we be left in this virtual reality or limbo Chamber for weeks and weeks to come?

Mary Lou McDonald: It is the obvious question-----
- Business of Dáil (4 May 2016)
Mary Lou McDonald: It is the obvious question that needs to be asked and answered by An Taoiseach. We have word of an agreement, a programme for Government, perhaps, in all but name, from Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil. It would raise alarm bells for many people, certainly for anyone who is concerned with the health system or the fair administration of medical cards and so on.
- Business of Dáil (4 May 2016)
Mary Lou McDonald: Be that as it may, can we have a moment of clarity from this Chamber to the world outside that is wondering whether we will ever have a Government-----
- Business of Dáil (4 May 2016)
Mary Lou McDonald: -----or, perhaps, in some cases, whether we should have a Government? Can the Taoiseach please-----
- Business of Dáil (4 May 2016)
Mary Lou McDonald: For the purposes of keeping every Member informed-----
- Business of Dáil (4 May 2016)
Mary Lou McDonald: -----and in recognition of the esteem in which we are all held individually on the basis of our democratic mandate, could the Taoiseach please shed some light on when or whether there will be a vote to elect a Taoiseach and establish an Administration?
- Business of Dáil (4 May 2016)
Mary Lou McDonald: I am working on the assumption that the acting Minister for Justice and Equality would be in attendance and would make a statement on the matter. However, if the Taoiseach is now making a concrete proposal that we would have statements on this matter tomorrow, it would resolve the issue. It is late but it is welcome that we would get to the issues.
- Business of Dáil (4 May 2016)
Mary Lou McDonald: Not agreed. It is not so much that we have an issue with statements on agriculture or climate change, which are important issues, but the fact I have raised on two separate occasions the issue of violence on our streets and the killings that have happened, particularly in Dublin and the north inner city. I understood on the previous occasion I raised this issue that there was a sense of...
- Business of Dáil (28 Apr 2016)
Mary Lou McDonald: It is not agreed to. Yesterday, I raised the motion I had lodged with the Ceann Comhairle's office in respect of the spate of killings, particularly in Dublin, not least in my constituency during recent months. Yesterday, I got the sense that there was agreement in the Chamber that it was a matter of national importance and some urgency. It does not feature on today's business, which might...

- Ireland's Stability Programme Update April 2016: Statements (27 Apr 2016)
Mary Lou McDonald: I am sharing time with Deputy David Cullinane, whom I continue to refer mistakenly to as Senator David Cullinane.
- Ireland's Stability Programme Update April 2016: Statements (27 Apr 2016)
Mary Lou McDonald: I did not make that mistake now. I am sorry that the acting Minister, Deputy Richard Bruton, has left the Chamber. I listened with a sense of frustration to his assertion that nobody in the Chamber had a monopoly of compassion. Whatever he might have meant by that comment, it translates to an assumption that we are here to serve the interests of citizens not on the basis of equality,...
- Business of Dáil (27 Apr 2016)
Mary Lou McDonald: On a separate issue.
- Business of Dáil (27 Apr 2016)
Mary Lou McDonald: I lodged with the Ceann Comhairle a motion, under Standing Order 33, on a matter of national importance. It relates to what has become a litany of so-called gangland killings, three of which have happened in my constituency, others across the city. Everybody would agree that we now have not just a crisis in policing resources, but also a crisis in community confidence. This is an issue...
