- Seanad: Order of Business (17 Apr 2013)
David Norris: As a member of three trade unions who voted against the acceptance of the breach of an agreement by the Government unilaterally, I celebrate the fact that SIPTU and the other trade unions voted against it massively and overwhelmingly. It was an exercise in democracy of the kind I would like to see more often around this joint. It is unlike the situation in which the people came here from...
- Seanad: Motor Vehicle (Duties and Licences) Bill 2013: Second Stage (28 Mar 2013)
David Norris: I welcome the Minister to the House with which he is familiar and to which he is a frequent visitor. I also welcome elements of this Bill, in particular those dealing with carbon emissions. This is a constructive environmental approach. However, I would like to raise a few issues. I refer to the fact that a substantial amount of this money will transfer to local authorities. It may well...
- Seanad: Motor Vehicle (Duties and Licences) Bill 2013: Second Stage (28 Mar 2013)
David Norris: It is beautiful Jaguar XJ6 3.1 litre for which I paid ¤5,000. The tax is touching ¤2,000 per annum and my insurance premium is approximately ¤1,000. I pay more than half what I paid for the car per annum. If I keep my car in good condition, which I do as I have it regularly serviced by the Jaguar company, I do not see why this exorbitant tax should be levied on it.

- Seanad: Order of Business (28 Mar 2013)
David Norris: I want to thank you, a Chathaoirligh, for the handsome certificate that all of us have received from you. It was a most generous and imaginative act to celebrate the fact that we are all Members of Seanad Ãireann on the 90th anniversary of the House.
- Seanad: Order of Business (28 Mar 2013)
David Norris: I wish to place on the record of the House my thanks to you for that.
- Seanad: Order of Business (28 Mar 2013)
David Norris: I also wish to raise the question of the gardaÃ. I am also very concerned about this matter. By and large, the Garda SÃochána commands the respect of all the people in this country. I believe, however, that certain elements of the Government have started to behave in an extraordinarily arrogant fashion. The blame may not be all on one side, but I was very surprised when the Minister...

- Seanad: Order of Business (27 Mar 2013)
David Norris: That may be what the Senator believes but the people disagree with him.
- Seanad: Order of Business (27 Mar 2013)
David Norris: Yes, like my book.
- Seanad: Order of Business (27 Mar 2013)
David Norris: It is remarkable how every time I stand up, the person in the Chair prefaces my remarks by expressing the hope that Senators will not speak for too long.
- Seanad: Order of Business (27 Mar 2013)
David Norris: Absolutely, and unlike the Pope, the Leas-Chathaoirleach is always infallible in my book. While I said a few words about Jimmy Walsh last week, I welcome the opportunity to say good things about him again today when he is actually in the Chamber. In a degraded profession, he has maintained extremely high standards. We must value the meticulousness with which he recorded the doings of this...
- Seanad: Order of Business (26 Mar 2013)
David Norris: I beg your pardon.
- Seanad: Order of Business (26 Mar 2013)
David Norris: It does not matter a damn. One cannot put the genie back in the bottle. He said what he meant and we all know it damn well; that this was a blueprint for the rest of Europe. I repeat it again for the assistance of the Senator. Of course it is - crucifying the ordinary, innocent, decent citizens who have done absolutely nothing wrong. Let us put the history straight; Cyprus invested...
