Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Quarterly Update On Health Issues: Discussion (18 Oct 2017)

Alan Kelly: I have not finished. I do not expect Mr. O'Brien to cross into the line of a legal case. For the information of the Chairman and public, I asked the Minister the question earlier and he has passed it on to Mr. O'Brien. Mr. O'Brien has now said he is going to send in a written answer.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Quarterly Update On Health Issues: Discussion (18 Oct 2017)

Alan Kelly: One second. There is scope for Mr. O'Brien to answer the question without crossing into the legal area. I presume he fully supports the local HSE in regard to its actions.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Quarterly Update On Health Issues: Discussion (18 Oct 2017)

There are many other regulations also. We discussed this matter here and we did so at a meeting of the Committee of Public Accounts for different reasons, concerning the spending of money. The point, however, is...

Alan Kelly: I thank the Chairman for facilitating me. I have a significant interest in this issue. I left the meeting of the PAC to attend this meeting because I want to support the process. I have been following the issue, along with my colleague, Deputy Penrose, who has also taken a big interest in this and has written about it and raised it in the Dáil. He expressed his love of the Department...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Banking Sector in Ireland (Resumed): Savings Banks Foundation for International Cooperation, Irish Rural Link and Public Banking Forum of Ireland (12 Oct 2017)

Alan Kelly: I am sorry. I do not wish to be rude but I have another question. I was very much taken by what was said about the impact on other banks - by the way, I love that. Could the witnesses explain it? When the model was rolled out, the foundation wiped the floor with the banks that were in the region and by the sound of things, they left. Did they just get out of the market the foundation was...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Banking Sector in Ireland (Resumed): Savings Banks Foundation for International Cooperation, Irish Rural Link and Public Banking Forum of Ireland (12 Oct 2017)

Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (12 Oct 2017)

Alan Kelly: One moment, let me finish. I agree with it. I believe there is a time-sensitivity in this regard. We have a couple of issues which will take a couple of hours in this committee - we will be talking about the Garda matter later on. Maybe we could address two or three of these issues on the same day and deal with them.

Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (12 Oct 2017)

Alan Kelly: I concur with the previous speaker. Going through this, there is a piece here stating that the threat of not taking in new admissions from acute hospitals is a very powerful potential lobbying tool.
