Charlie McConalogue: Applications were received under the Basic Income Support for Sustainability Scheme for the Scheme year 2023 from 204 herd numbers in respect of land parcels on at least one of the three Aran Islands. An analysis of this data indicates that 192 of these herd numbers were approved into the Agri-Climate Rural Environment Scheme (ACRES).

Charlie McConalogue: The central equine database is a live system that is continually updated as information is entered. The final figure for the number of thoroughbreds slaughtered in 2023 is 1,440. All were slaughtered at the one approved equine slaughter facility in Co. Kildare. There are no other approved facilities slaughtering horses in Ireland.
