Seanad: Commencement Matter: Schools Building Contractors (3 May 2018)

Catherine Byrne: I have dealt with issues relating to subcontractors in my own role. A chain of command needs to be put in place. In light of the concerns raised by the Senator, however, I will bring this back to the Minister. He is really sorry that he cannot be here today but I will make sure that a response is given to the Senator in person.

Catherine Byrne: I thank Senator Maria Byrne. I apologise on behalf of the Minister, Deputy Harris, who unfortunately cannot be here. He has asked me to reply to the Senator on this matter. Catherine Byrne: I note the Senator's concerns in this regard and what she said about physiotherapists not being included. I will raise the issue again on the Senator's behalf with the Minister but there will be further consideration in the framework and as stated in the reply, until those structures have been established I cannot give the Senator any further information.

As Members are aware, he has been trying to do a lot of things in recent days and he has asked me to respond to the debate on his behalf. I thank all the Senators who participated in what is probably one of the most important discussions that has happened in a long time in this Chamber and in the Dáil. As the Minister, Deputy...

The Bill’s objective is to prohibit conversion therapy, an extremely worrying...

Written Answers — Department of Health: Drug and Alcohol Task Forces (1 May 2018)

Catherine Byrne: Every effort has been made to protect the budgets of Drug and Alcohol Task Forces in recent years. The overall allocation to Ballymun Drug and Alcohol Task Forces for community-based drugs initiatives in 2018 is in excess of €1.1m, the same amount was provided in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017. Topical Issue Debate: Mental Health Services (26 Apr 2018)

Catherine Byrne: I assure Deputy Mattie McGrath that I do not take it lightly when I am asked to read from a prepared statement in the Chamber. I am sure the Minister of State, Deputy Jim Daly, can reply to the Deputy personally. I will ask him to do so. To claim money is not being poured into the mental health services is wrong. This year the budget allocation is €910 million.

Topical Issue Debate: Mental Health Services (26 Apr 2018)

Catherine Byrne: I totally disagree with the Deputy, as somebody who has personally been affected by a family member who has had to use mental health services in the past two years. I can stand over the care provided by my local mental health service to my daughter, who was struck with bad post-natal depression. The service was provided in our community. That is what I was trying to relate back to the...
