Written Answers — Health Services: Health Services (23 Apr 2008)

Timmy Dooley: Question 135: To ask the Minister for Health and Children if changes are envisaged in the priority ratings for physiotherapy to persons with identified long-term illnesses, in particular, those suffering from muscular dystrophy; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [15506/08]

Health Services: Motion (Resumed) (23 Apr 2008)

Timmy Dooley: I wish to share time with Deputy Charlie O'Connor.

Health Services: Motion (Resumed) (23 Apr 2008)

Timmy Dooley: I welcome the opportunity to contribute to this debate. Like many of the debates we have had on the health services, it gives us a chance to put forward our views on various topics. It is the duty of the Opposition to raise what it sees as the Government's inability to address the issues concerned. It is unfortunate, however, that specific areas of the health services are often bandied...

Health Services: Motion (Resumed) (23 Apr 2008)

Timmy Dooley: I did not interrupt Deputy Shatter and he might afford me the same level of courtesy.

Health Services: Motion (Resumed) (23 Apr 2008)

Timmy Dooley: If the Deputy wishes, I would be happy to heckle him.

Health Services: Motion (Resumed) (23 Apr 2008)

Timmy Dooley: I, too, would prefer not to heckle. It is critically important that we focus on developing a strategy. We can all be the wise man in the pub or the hurler on the ditch and play down each element of the game, but the public expects more from us. It has put its faith in us to come at this from a different point of view by suggesting solutions that meet their needs rather than acting as...

Twenty-eighth Amendment of the Constitution Bill 2008: Second Stage (Resumed) (17 Apr 2008)

Timmy Dooley: I thank the Minister for sharing time. The challenges facing Ireland's jobs, environment and competitiveness are global. Against climate change, rising energy costs, transnational crime and global economic downturns our capacity, acting alone, to defend our interest is minimal. Ireland's sovereignty, power and strength is, after all, that capacity to act for our people in defending...

World Trade Organisation Negotiations: Motion (17 Apr 2008)

Timmy Dooley: It is difficult to follow a passionate speech like Deputy Brady's but I welcome the opportunity to contribute to this important debate. Like him, I represent a rural constituency. I was brought up on a small family farm in east Clare and I am well aware of the concerns and issues of farmers regarding this deal. I am fully aware of the issues and difficulties associated with the Mandelson...

World Trade Organisation Negotiations: Motion (17 Apr 2008)

Timmy Dooley: One of the most recent contributions was from a prepared script and she was castigated about her contribution to the debate. However, it must have been written in advance of the debate like the old retort to the budget. That is not helpful but that may only be the position of one or two Opposition Members. As others have said, we need to come together in a cohesive way and support the...

World Trade Organisation Negotiations: Motion (17 Apr 2008)

Timmy Dooley: The WTO trading system has been helpful to Ireland and it continues to work. However, the proposed changes are extremely troubling and the Minister and the Government have rightly set their stall firmly against them. That is why I find it difficult to accept the notion put forward by the Opposition that the Minister has done nothing. She has shown in various statements, including her...

World Trade Organisation Negotiations: Motion (17 Apr 2008)

Timmy Dooley: This is a lot of rubbish.

Capitation Grants: Motion (11 Mar 2008)

Timmy Dooley: There was sunshine the day I visited.

Capitation Grants: Motion (11 Mar 2008)

Timmy Dooley: It will be happy when it gets its new classroom.

Health Services (11 Mar 2008)

Timmy Dooley: I welcome the opportunity to participate in this important debate. Towards the end of last week I was approached by a friend who works within the health sector who advised me that the HSE has or is about to remove the planned upgrade at the Mid West Regional Hospital at Ennis from the national development plan of the HSE's capital works programme for 2007-11. I wish to establish if this...

Health Services (11 Mar 2008)

Timmy Dooley: I will not accept the HSE coming forward and responding to pleas on live radio in respect of particular issues in this city. As far as I am concerned, it is this House that makes decisions.

Health Services (11 Mar 2008)

Timmy Dooley: It is the decisions that are taken here that are important. That is what I expect the HSE to respond to, not to what happens on live radio. As an elected politician, I believe the HSE has a responsibility to take on board the views expressed in this House and the commitments given in this House.

Written Answers — Schools Building Projects: Schools Building Projects (11 Mar 2008)

Timmy Dooley: Question 401: To ask the Minister for Education and Science the status of a school (details supplied) in County Clare on the building programme. [10383/08]

Anti-Social Behaviour: Motion (Resumed) (5 Mar 2008)

Timmy Dooley: I propose to share time with Deputies O'Connor, Conlon, Nolan, Thomas Byrne and Cuffe.
