Dara Calleary: 117. To ask the Minister for Environment, Community and Local Government if he will consider a request from the South West Mayo Development Company for €1.4 million in extra funding to support projects in the county; if he will acknowledge that SWMDC took an 18% reduction in funding earlier this year, despite having to take on extra work owing to the reorganisation of MFG territory;...
- Access to Credit: Motion [Private Members] (12 Nov 2013)
Dara Calleary: They need to invest in the small to medium-sized enterprise, SME, community, the same community the Government promised it would deal with upward-only rent reviews. That promise is gone. Will the investment bank and enterprise bank promises go the same way? If so, the Government should say so now instead of tabling a flim-flam amendment that expresses nothing of the reality being...

Dara Calleary: I move:That Dáil Éireann: notes that: — accessing credit remains very difficult for businesses and personal customers throughout the country; — the continuing decline in the number of banks operating in the Irish economy, particularly in retail banking, will increase costs and reduce choice for businesses and consumers; — there is a significant rise in the...
- Order of Business (12 Nov 2013)
Dara Calleary: Does the Government plan to introduce an amendment to the Social Welfare and Pensions Bill to give legislative underpinning to the European youth guarantee? The point Deputy Mattie McGrath raised about the EirGrid Bill is important and should be considered not in terms of the individual but of the conflict of two roles.

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Progress Update: Discussion with Microfinance Ireland (12 Nov 2013)
Dara Calleary: I have one brief question and a suggestion. In the earlier discussion with Deputy Lawlor, Ms Murray mentioned that some of Microfinance Ireland's approvals are already experiencing difficulties in repayment. What percentage of arrears is Microfinance Ireland already experiencing? Second, the information provided to the joint committee today has been excellent. I believe it would be worth...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Progress Update: Discussion with Microfinance Ireland (12 Nov 2013)
Dara Calleary: They have morning programmes on which, unlike in Dublin, they actually allow one to talk. It is an information exchange, as opposed to an exchange of opinion and I really believe that in those counties in which Microfinance Ireland may be below target, it should consider using the local radio stations. Members would be more than happy to facilitate introductions for the witnesses.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Progress Update: Discussion with Microfinance Ireland (12 Nov 2013)
Dara Calleary: Local radio serves the purpose of getting across information and Microfinance Ireland's communications strategy should involve the local radio sector.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Progress Update: Discussion with Microfinance Ireland (12 Nov 2013)
Dara Calleary: I welcome the delegation from MFI. I acknowledge the Chairman's efforts to contact me over the weekend to give me time to discuss some of my concerns about the scheme. Ms Murray said that MFI is not a panacea, which I accept, but unfortunately MFI is being presented as the panacea for the inability of even good companies with solid business plans to get credit, which is a serious problem...

- Leaders' Questions (7 Nov 2013)
Dara Calleary: What about the Jack and Jill Foundation?
- Topical Issue Debate: Job Losses (6 Nov 2013)
Dara Calleary: Homecare Medical is an example of an innovative SME. If it is having a problem with this process, my suggestion is genuinely that the problem is with the process. This company is not afraid of business or of hard work. If it could have met the demands of that process, it would have. We have to examine this. I am encouraged to hear that Enterprise Ireland is working with the company. I...
- Topical Issue Debate: Job Losses (6 Nov 2013)
Dara Calleary: I thank the Ceann Comhairle for allowing us raise this issue. As Deputy O'Mahony stated, Homecare Medical Supplies has, since 1988, been an excellent home-grown company, very well run by the McGuinness family. It will maintain 70 positions, but 50 will be lost in Kiltimagh and 15 will be lost in Ballyhaunis. It is a massive blow to those areas. This is a company with a very proud and...
- Select Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Companies Bill 2012: Committee Stage (Resumed) (6 Nov 2013)
Dara Calleary: I agree with the Minister of State. I am sure it will be done in time. It is a policy to lob this amendment into all Bills at the last minute. This Bill should have been written as Gaeilge as it was going along so that translation is not a major administrative burden. I am willing to accept the Minister of State's good faith, but every time such an amendment comes in I will object to it.
- Select Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Companies Bill 2012: Committee Stage (Resumed) (6 Nov 2013)
Dara Calleary: Before we put down the gavel I want to be certain we have the ability to table amendments on Report Stage around the term "accountant". The Minister will lead us but I want to be certain there will be no procedural issue. We flagged it yesterday and I want to flag it again. We need further consultation with the Minister on this and my party will bring forward amendments on Report Stage.
