Seanad: Order of Business (3 Jun 2010)

Paul Coghlan: It is supposed to be a public interest appointment.

Seanad: Order of Business (2 Jun 2010)

Paul Coghlan: I, too, welcome the fact that Senator Callely will make a statement and that, depending on the statement made, it may be referred, if necessary, to a committee of the House which would report as expeditiously as possible to us on the matter which I hope will be satisfactorily put to bed. I am very concerned about anecdotal evidence that some officials of NAMA have been in touch with some...

Seanad: Order of Business (1 Jun 2010)

Paul Coghlan: For the reasons that have been outlined, I agree with Senators who have argued that the Cathaoirleach should give Senator Callely an opportunity to make a personal statement at the earliest possible time. The wrong kind of spotlight is being put on the profession of politics and on this House. He must be given an opportunity to state where he ordinarily resides and to address the various...

Seanad: Order of Business (1 Jun 2010)

Paul Coghlan: No.

Seanad: Order of Business (1 Jun 2010)

Paul Coghlan: I have been there and I would recommend everyone to go there.

Seanad: Order of Business (1 Jun 2010)

Paul Coghlan: The site's opening and closing times are far too restrictive and its season is too short. At a time when we are trying to boost the tourism industry throughout the country, we need this world heritage site to be opened from April to the end of October. That would have more in common with the proper fullness of the season.

Seanad: Order of Business (1 Jun 2010)

Paul Coghlan: Perhaps.

Seanad: Order of Business (1 Jun 2010)

Paul Coghlan: Seriously, the officials need to be less restrictive and more understanding of the difficult times we are in. I agree with those who have called for a debate on banking. We have received the report of the Governor of the Central Bank, Mr. Honohan. The Minister has probably received, or is about to receive, the report prepared by Mr. Regling and Mr. Watson.

Seanad: Order of Business (1 Jun 2010)

Paul Coghlan: There are many serious issues to be discussed.

Seanad: Order of Business (1 Jun 2010)

Paul Coghlan: I thank the Senator.

Seanad: Public Service Agreement 2010-2014: Statements (13 May 2010)

Paul Coghlan: No interruptions, please.

Seanad: Public Service Agreement 2010-2014: Statements (13 May 2010)

Paul Coghlan: I do not want to stop the Senator, but his time is up.

Seanad: Public Service Agreement 2010-2014: Statements (13 May 2010)

Paul Coghlan: The Senator is over time.

Seanad: Public Service Agreement 2010-2014: Statements (13 May 2010)

Paul Coghlan: I am advised the Senator is not allowed to refer to people who are not in the Chamber.

Seanad: Public Service Agreement 2010-2014: Statements (13 May 2010)

Paul Coghlan: I thank the Senator.

Seanad: Order of Business (12 May 2010)

Paul Coghlan: I strongly agree with the remarks of Senators Fitzgerald and O'Toole about the €3 billion we have read about this morning and about which the Minister, Deputy Brian Lenihan, has been in contact with his colleagues. If this is not a budget - perhaps it is not - what is it? We in this House, as do those in the other House, have a clear entitlement to understand and know about the process....

Seanad: Order of Business (11 May 2010)

Paul Coghlan: I support the proposal made by Senator Frances Fitzgerald and I second the amendment to the Order of Business to have the debate on the Brussels package, which is timely and appropriate. Allied to that is the question that has been raised by Senator Twomey regarding Anglo Irish Bank. We know there were 101 questions from the Commission regarding Anglo's plans, which were submitted some time...

Seanad: Order of Business (11 May 2010)

Paul Coghlan: Yes.

Seanad: Order of Business (11 May 2010)

Paul Coghlan: Did I?

Seanad: Order of Business (6 May 2010)

Paul Coghlan: I second the amendment to the Order of Business proposed by Senator Buttimer. I join Senator Hannigan in calling for a debate on the tourism industry which, I am say to say, has been suffering badly. However, I welcome the initiative taken by the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Sport, Deputy Hanafin, in the British market which traditionally has been our best market. There are reasons...
