Maurice Cummins: Senator Mullen referred to procurement anomalies in the west-north west hospitals group. The Minister for Health suggested that an investigation into this matter was under way. I am not sure whether that investigation has been completed. However, I will ask the Minister when it will be brought to a conclusion, whether any findings will be published and what action will be taken.

- Seanad: Order of Business (22 Jan 2015)
Maurice Cummins: I know Senator MacSharry does not like to hear the facts, but it is the case that 250,000 jobs were lost in the past three years of the Government of which Fianna Fáil was a part. I suggest there was a very big disconnect between the Government and the people, and the people showed that that was the case.
- Seanad: Order of Business (22 Jan 2015)
Maurice Cummins: Senator MacSharry has a neck to talk about a disconnect.

Maurice Cummins: Senators Bacik and Norris welcomed the Thirty-Fourth Amendment of the Constitution Bill. As Senator Norris indicated, the Government approved the wording yesterday. Maurice Cummins: The leader of the Opposition, Senator Darragh O'Brien, referred to home help workers and the Labour Court recommendations. I am not sure whether he raised that matter with the Minister for Health yesterday but I will raise the points he made with him. Senator Bacik and a number of other Senators referred to the requirement for a 20% deposit for mortgages. Senator Paul Coghlan referred to...

Maurice Cummins: We are dealing with machines all the time now. Talking about machines, the suggestion that some local authority libraries will not have a librarian is absolutely ludicrous. That is going to the extreme.
- Seanad: Order of Business (21 Jan 2015)
Maurice Cummins: I will certainly bring the matter to the attention of the Minister for Finance. Senator Leyden referred to the Central Bank of Ireland. As he knows, the Central Bank of Ireland is independent of Government. In regard to Ms Lagarde, I think she answered the questions she was asked directly and in a very forthright manner. Senator Mullins referred to the regional spread for jobs and called...

- Seanad: Order of Business (20 Jan 2015)
Maurice Cummins: The reduction in the number of at-risk supplies from 141 last year to 121 is welcome. The number of people affected by boil water notices and at-risk supplies remains unacceptable. The EPA states that greater investment in drinking water infrastructure is needed. That is why a single national utility funded by domestic and non-domestic water charges is so essential. Water charges and the...
- Seanad: Order of Business (20 Jan 2015)
Maurice Cummins: Senator Darragh O'Brien and other Senators mentioned the Central Bank's rule of having a 20% mortgage deposit. The Central Bank Bill will come before the House and I know it will deal with a specific matter on Thursday. Personally, I feel a 20% mortgage deposit is a little unrealistic, particularly for young people who are trying to get on the first rung of the housing ladder. Obviously...
