Joint Oireachtas Committee on Arts, Media, Communications, Culture and Sport: Arts Council Grant Management IT System: Discussion (11 Jun 2025)

Evanne Ní Chuilinn: I am conscious of the artists out there who are worried about their funding and their careers. At the end of the day, these are people's careers. Can we get a guarantee or commitment from the council or Department that individual artists currently being funded will not be affected by this upheaval in funding?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Arts, Media, Communications, Culture and Sport: Arts Council Grant Management IT System: Discussion (11 Jun 2025)

Evanne Ní Chuilinn: It is a ministerial decision, first and foremost. Okay. Senator Ahearn asked for ten years of conflict of interest. That is a lot of paperwork and a lot of things to chase up. Joint Oireachtas Committee on Arts, Media, Communications, Culture and Sport: Revised General Scheme of the Broadcasting (Amendment) Bill: Discussion (10 Jun 2025)

Evanne Ní Chuilinn: I will start with the Department. The original Bill states that the broadcasting fund will be reconstituted into a platform-neutral media fund. We have seen benefits of multi-annual funding in other sectors. Ms Ryan spoke about building careers and how important it is to have access to multi-annual funding for the people working in the sector. Is the Department receptive to that in...

Evanne Ní Chuilinn: That is fine. Without routine compliance checks, there would be no deterrent against the use of public funds without fair contracts. I have a question for Screen Ireland. What is the importance of sections 481 and 487 to the sector and the importance of those tax rebates?
