Alison Comyn: Can Ms McGrath assure that this is not a setback to whatever funding there may be?

Alison Comyn: I have no more questions.

Committee on Transport: Driving Test and NCT Delays: RSA (11 Jun 2025)

Alison Comyn: I will make the most of it. As a Louth-based Senator, I will start by warmly welcoming a second driving test centre for Louth, based in Drogheda. The witnesses are reluctant to name the location, but is the Southgate Shopping Centre, close to the NDLS centre, one of the favoured locations?

Committee on Transport: Driving Test and NCT Delays: RSA (11 Jun 2025)

Alison Comyn: Should that process be successful, what is the timeline for opening?

Committee on Transport: Driving Test and NCT Delays: RSA (11 Jun 2025)

Alison Comyn: If that falls through, as negotiations sometimes can, is an alternative ready to go?

Committee on Transport: Driving Test and NCT Delays: RSA (11 Jun 2025)

Alison Comyn: I wholeheartedly support my colleague Senator Clifford-Lee on the hope that the site may become available in Swords in north County Dublin. Otherwise, all we will get is a backlog. We have our own backlog. Will more testers be recruited in the Drogheda area?

Committee on Transport: Driving Test and NCT Delays: RSA (11 Jun 2025)

Alison Comyn: That is excellent. Moving on to the test, I have two children who have just torn up their novice stickers. The one thing they did when they got their tests was to head straight out onto a motorway and then drive home at night. Are there any plans to include a lesson on the motorway or at night-time? That was the first time either of them had ever done that.

Committee on Transport: Driving Test and NCT Delays: RSA (11 Jun 2025)

Alison Comyn: Is there a timeline on that?

Committee on Transport: Driving Test and NCT Delays: RSA (11 Jun 2025)

Alison Comyn: There is a massive backlog. As happened in the past, has the RSA ever considered an amnesty?

Committee on Transport: Driving Test and NCT Delays: RSA (11 Jun 2025)

Alison Comyn: I would advocate for an NCT centre, not only for north County Dublin, but for east Meath as well because Drogheda is under serious pressure.

Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (10 Jun 2025)

Alison Comyn: I invite the Minister for Education and Youth, Helen McEntee, to the House to get an update on the proposed construction of the Louth and Meath Education and Training Board headquarters in Drogheda, County Louth, and the timeline for its completion. The decision to have a State body headquartered in the town was first floated more than ten years ago. It was seen as a huge vote of...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Arts, Media, Communications, Culture and Sport: Revised General Scheme of the Broadcasting (Amendment) Bill: Discussion (10 Jun 2025)

Alison Comyn: I thank all the witnesses for coming in this evening. I am glad some more colleagues have joined. I was feeling a little outnumbered at the start but we have certainly balanced it out. One of the joys of being slightly further down the list is that I become ever-more inventive with my questions because many have been touched upon. I will probably dig a little bit deeper, as Deputy Brennan...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Arts, Media, Communications, Culture and Sport: Revised General Scheme of the Broadcasting (Amendment) Bill: Discussion (10 Jun 2025)

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Arts, Media, Communications, Culture and Sport: Revised General Scheme of the Broadcasting (Amendment) Bill: Discussion (10 Jun 2025)

Alison Comyn: I am glad to hear that. I am conscious of time. I will put a similar question to Coimisiún na Meán. How does it intend to protect and promote local and community broadcasting?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Arts, Media, Communications, Culture and Sport: Revised General Scheme of the Broadcasting (Amendment) Bill: Discussion (10 Jun 2025)

Alison Comyn: That may bring the Department in. How can we protect those jobs? There has been tremendous work. Sadly, I missed the boat on it but there has been tremendous work done on local democracy. How can we protect the actual assets, the publications they are working with?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Arts, Media, Communications, Culture and Sport: Revised General Scheme of the Broadcasting (Amendment) Bill: Discussion (10 Jun 2025)

Alison Comyn: My next question is for RTÉ. What is its position on the proposed changes to the licence fee and the funding model under the broadcasting Bill?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Arts, Media, Communications, Culture and Sport: Revised General Scheme of the Broadcasting (Amendment) Bill: Discussion (10 Jun 2025)

Alison Comyn: I may get a chance to touch on it later but I will introduce it now. We have not really discussed harmful content online. What internal policies does RTÉ have to monitor harmful content on its digital platforms?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Arts, Media, Communications, Culture and Sport: Revised General Scheme of the Broadcasting (Amendment) Bill: Discussion (10 Jun 2025)

Alison Comyn: However, RTÉ will have new obligations on content moderation, particularly on its social media and streaming platforms. Is it across them? Does it have internal policies for them?
