- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality: Policing Issues: An Garda Síochána (7 Dec 2017)
Alan Kelly: Either report.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality: Policing Issues: An Garda Síochána (7 Dec 2017)
Alan Kelly: Assistant Commissioner O'Sullivan's report first and then the Crowe Howarth report.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality: Policing Issues: An Garda Síochána (7 Dec 2017)
Alan Kelly: That is why I asked this question.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality: Policing Issues: An Garda Síochána (7 Dec 2017)
Alan Kelly: Just to clarify, under which report were people disciplined?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality: Policing Issues: An Garda Síochána (7 Dec 2017)
Alan Kelly: I do not want to get into individual cases either because I know where they are - hence the question. Under the O'Mahony report, these individuals were disciplined. We have now had two more reports subsequently but no one has been disciplined on foot of them.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality: Policing Issues: An Garda Síochána (7 Dec 2017)
Alan Kelly: I would appreciate it if I was not interrupted by Mr. O'Sullivan. There were two more reports. When the O'Mahony report was done, three individuals were reprimanded or disciplined, as I understand it. That was good enough to do then. Then we had two further reports but nobody was disciplined. Is there not something glaringly wrong in that scenario? Is there not a contradiction in the...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality: Policing Issues: An Garda Síochána (7 Dec 2017)
Alan Kelly: I will move on.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality: Policing Issues: An Garda Síochána (7 Dec 2017)
Alan Kelly: Okay. I understand what the deputy commissioner said but I do not accept it. I have made my point and people are well aware of the contradiction in relation to the actions of An Garda Síochána based on three different reports. The Garda Síochána receives funding from the Road Safety Authority, RSA, and the National Transport Authority, NTA, for enforcement operations...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality: Policing Issues: An Garda Síochána (7 Dec 2017)
Alan Kelly: I accept that. I have raised the issue and I think everybody understands my point. My next question is to all of the witnesses who are serving members of An Garda Síochána. The report on breath testing was published. All of the witnesses who are serving members of An Garda Síochána have had significant careers in the organisation, having served in various jurisdictions...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality: Policing Issues: An Garda Síochána (7 Dec 2017)
Alan Kelly: So Mr. O'Driscoll had no knowledge of the issue?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality: Policing Issues: An Garda Síochána (7 Dec 2017)
Alan Kelly: All I want is a Yes or No answer from each witness. I do not need any explanation.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality: Policing Issues: An Garda Síochána (7 Dec 2017)
Alan Kelly: Thank you. This issue was raised by a whistleblower in the west, a reservist, and it worked its way up the line to people responsible in various parts of the country for traffic management and so on yet there was no knowledge at the highest level in An Garda Síochána about it. I find that unbelievable. I know hundreds of gardaí. Everyone knew this was going on, except...
- Written Answers — Department of Housing, Planning, and Local Government: Housing Provision (7 Dec 2017)
Alan Kelly: 41. To ask the Minister for Housing, Planning, and Local Government the progress of his Department’s engagement with the EUROSTAT investigation in respect of the credit union investments in social housing and lending to approved housing bodies; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [50875/17]
- Written Answers — Department of Justice and Equality: Pension Provisions (7 Dec 2017)
Alan Kelly: 102. To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Justice and Equality when personal superannuation fund statements for 2015 and 2016, as provided for under the Public Service Pensions (Single Scheme and Other Provisions) Act 2012, are required to be issued to gardaí recruited since 2012; when they will be issued; and if he will make a statement on the matter. - Topical Issue Debate: Medicinal Products Availability (6 Dec 2017)
Alan Kelly: I accept everything the Minister said but, to be honest with him, the families and those involved do not and cannot accept it. It is nothing personal, but they cannot. They do not care about this inter-wrangling or the politics involved. I agree with the Minister about the drug company's behaviour. I assume the HSE is doing its best. I accept all of that. However, these people do not...
- Topical Issue Debate: Medicinal Products Availability (6 Dec 2017)
Alan Kelly: The Minister is aware of my views on this issue. I have spoken with him and raised it numerous different ways with the HSE and with his office. I spoke about orphan drugs at a committee. Last Friday was, for personal reasons, probably one of the angriest days of my life in politics. I was quite upset. A neighbour of mine, Marion Kelly, passed away. She was one of the two people who...
- Ceisteanna - Questions (Resumed): Commissions of Investigation (6 Dec 2017)
Alan Kelly: That is fair enough. I suggest that the Taoiseach asks his party colleagues about it.
- Ceisteanna - Questions (Resumed): Commissions of Investigation (6 Dec 2017)
Alan Kelly: Eight days to be precise.
- Ceisteanna - Questions (Resumed): Commissions of Investigation (6 Dec 2017)
Alan Kelly: We were asking about the section 41 letter.
- Ceisteanna - Questions (Resumed): Commissions of Investigation (6 Dec 2017)
Alan Kelly: On a point of order, is the Taoiseach sure that it is a protected disclosure? The section 41 letter is from the acting Commissioner and is based on information that was provided to him internally. I was never aware that it was a protected disclosure.
