There is a general...

Other Questions: Hospital Waiting Lists (8 Mar 2017)

Jim O'Callaghan: St. Vincent's University Hospital is in Elm Park in my constituency. I want to ask the Minister about the outpatient waiting lists there, which have exploded recently. What is the Minister's plan to deal with the waiting lists? Are there targets in place to ensure we get the waiting lists down to manageable proportions?

Other Questions: Hospital Waiting Lists (8 Mar 2017)

Jim O'Callaghan: It is important to put on the record of the Dáil the waiting lists for outpatients in St. Vincent's hospital. In January 2016, there was a total of 15,612 people on the outpatient waiting list. By January 2017, it had increased to 17,526. What is most significant about the figures is the increase in the amount of time and the number of people who have been waiting for 18 months or...

Other Questions: Hospital Waiting Lists (8 Mar 2017)

Jim O'Callaghan: The fact that people are not attending hospital appointments does not explain the extraordinary figures, for instance in respect of cardiology, where 233 cardiology appointments have been outstanding for more than a year. It does not explain the situation regarding plastic surgery where 456 people have been waiting to be dealt with by plastic surgeons, which is an increase of 265 on last...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality: Penal Reform: Discussion (Resumed) (8 Mar 2017)

Jim O'Callaghan: In 2011, the Criminal Justice (Community Service) (Amendment) Act, which provides for judges to consider the imposition of community service instead of imprisonment, was enacted. Has that increased the workload of the Probation Service? Has there been an increase in community service orders since 2011?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality: Penal Reform: Discussion (Resumed) (8 Mar 2017)

Jim O'Callaghan: In Mr. Geiran's assessment, are the community service orders that were put in place working?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality: Penal Reform: Discussion (Resumed) (8 Mar 2017)

Jim O'Callaghan: I do not know if Mr. Geiran has seen the Criminal Justice (Victims of Crime) Bill. We had a presentation last week from a person on behalf of the Victims Rights Alliance. One of the concerns she had was that it does not include specific recognition of restorative justice. Is that something Mr. Geiran is concerned with? Will he comment on that?
