- Seanad: Personal Explanation by Member (16 Jul 2013)
David Norris: I thank the Cathaoirleach. I would like to explain what happened yesterday, put it in context and withdraw some of the words that gave offence. I was simply furious, having just possessed a copy of this mendacious document in which those of us who over the past 30 years have campaigned for Seanad reform were smeared in the nastiest way. This will be a very dirty campaign and it comes from...
- Seanad: Personal Explanation by Member (16 Jul 2013)
David Norris: I will finish by saying that it was stated on the radio by the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform, Deputy Howlin, that there was personal antagonism between myself and Deputy Doherty. That is untrue. I spoke to her last week and I sympathised with her on the horrible attacks about the abortion Bill, and I put that on the record of this House. There is no disagreement. There is...
- Seanad: Personal Explanation by Member (16 Jul 2013)
David Norris: I did it off the top of my head and I am very happy to withdraw the comment and to say that this is a very valuable document because it shows a smoking gun in that the Taoiseach, Deputy Enda Kenny, was prepared to parachute people in who had failed in the Dáil election. That is a serious issue, not intemperate language from me, which I am happy to withdraw.

- Seanad: Protection of Life During Pregnancy Bill 2013: Second Stage (15 Jul 2013)
David Norris: -----I am ending on this point, do we not know nature is profligate? Nature sheds millions of fertilised eggs every day. Do people not believe in God? Would they not leave to God the question of the soul and the ensoulment, whether it is at three days, 169 days or whatever? God is well able to look after a soul, wherever it comes from and wherever it is going to, and it is an impertinence...
- Seanad: Protection of Life During Pregnancy Bill 2013: Second Stage (15 Jul 2013)
David Norris: This is a nasty, timid and shame-faced piece of legislation which I will be reluctantly forced to support. I am really disgusted that still at this stage we, as a people, are apparently unable - certainly in political terms - to face reality, honesty and truth. I believe the people of Ireland are well in advance of this Government. At least the Minister did not say that the Seanad was...
- Seanad: Protection of Life During Pregnancy Bill 2013: Second Stage (15 Jul 2013)
David Norris: On a point of order, is the Minister's title Minister for Health?
- Seanad: Protection of Life During Pregnancy Bill 2013: Second Stage (15 Jul 2013)
David Norris: It is. We should be informed. If he is unconcerned about the health of the woman, it is a most extraordinary position to take as Minister for Health.

- Seanad: Order of Business (Resumed) (15 Jul 2013)
David Norris: Seanad Éireann should immediately issue a press statement on a unanimous basis. This is a tissue of lies. I object in the strongest possible way to the idea that someone who has spent years in the House should have to listen to the Regina monologue from someone who has not been a wet weekend in the Oireachtas and is talking through her fanny.
- Seanad: Order of Business (Resumed) (15 Jul 2013)
