- Seanad: Child Care Investment Programme: Motion. (1 Feb 2006)
Geraldine Feeney: I welcome the Minister of State at the Department of Health and Children, Deputy Brian Lenihan, to the House and happily second the motion. It was deplorable and outrageous behaviour by the Opposition, especially the larger party, Fine Gael, to leap up and down and jump around the place for the past number of days, citing figures off the tops of their heads of anything from â¬50 million to...

- Seanad: Strategy for Men's Health: Statements. (25 Jan 2006)
Geraldine Feeney: I am delighted at today's opportunity to speak on men's health. I always enjoy listening to Senator Ryan, and I smiled at his opening remarks when he spoke of men being a big bunch of cowards pretending that nothing is wrong. It is not only men who have created that state of affairs. Women like men to be cowards, since they like to mother, mind and nurse them, pretending that women know all...
- Seanad: Order of Business. (15 Dec 2005)
Geraldine Feeney: We all read in the newspapers this morning about the unfortunate case of the diagnosis of bowel cancer in a woman, the results of which she was not given until she went for a routine check-up a year later. Yesterday the hospital in question agreed a settlement with her and apologised, saying the error was due to a systems failure. Last week we had a lengthy and good debate on oncology...

- Seanad: Care of the Elderly: Motion. (14 Dec 2005)
Geraldine Feeney: I wish to share my time with Senator Daly. I, too, welcome the Minister of State, Deputy Seán Power, to the House. I am pleased to be able to speak on this motion. Some â¬150 million was announced in last week's budget by the Minister, Deputy Cowen, to provide care for the elderly. To take up Senator Terry's final comment that people should be allowed die with dignity in a hospital and that...
- Seanad: Care of the Elderly: Motion. (14 Dec 2005)
Geraldine Feeney: The people to whom I speak talk about the Government's commitment to older people, the wonderful pensions they receive and the great supports they have in their homes. I do not know from where the Senators are pulling the people to whom they have spoken who are complaining. We should not politicise this issue.
- Seanad: Care of the Elderly: Motion. (14 Dec 2005)
Geraldine Feeney: I sit on the National Economic and Social Forum and I, together with Senator Kate Walsh, am a member of the committee that drafted a report which has gone to Government. I am aware that the â¬150 million allocated will cover many of the measures we sought in that report. Given that allocation, if this is not a caring Government looking after the elderly in our society, I do not know what is.
- Seanad: Care of the Elderly: Motion. (14 Dec 2005)

- Seanad: Care of the Elderly: Motion. (14 Dec 2005)
Geraldine Feeney: Yes, he was right. It is only â¬110 million in 2006 but in 2007 an extra â¬40 million will be allocated to be broken down in respect of the areas outlined. Senator Browne called for the appointment of a nursing homes inspector. I am sure an inspector will be appointed in time. The most important point is to announce that â¬8 million is being spent on the provision of 250 extra beds. A...
