Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine's Response to Ash Dieback: Limerick and Tipperary Woodland Owners (25 Oct 2023)

Victor Boyhan: I want to clarify something regarding the IFA. I have already checked the Department journal and on Google. It is my understanding the IFA has also done it. I am happy coming to know that that is my understanding too so I am not relying on Mr. White's evidence, but I thank him for sharing it. To wrap up, I do not want to be negative but I want to be honest and frank. I do not want to...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine's Response to Ash Dieback: Limerick and Tipperary Woodland Owners (25 Oct 2023)

Victor Boyhan: I happy to work with Mr. White. In fairness to the committee, this has very much been a focus. Forestry has taken up a lot of time in the committee and the Chairman and all the members have really pushed for it. I share Mr. White's concerns. I am willing to help and support but I want to bring a dose of realism into this debate. I thank Mr. White for his engagement.

Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (18 Oct 2023)

Victor Boyhan: I commend Irish Rural Link. The Tánaiste, Deputy Micheál Martin, launched its annual report earlier in Buswells Hotel. Irish Rural Link does amazing work. I am not going to spend any time here setting out details of that work. We all know the critically important work it does in linking into communities, particularly isolated ones that need a bit of encouragement and networking....

Victor Boyhan: I thank the Cathaoirleach for selecting this Commencement matter. I welcome the Minister of State to the House and thank him for agreeing to deal with this simple Commencement matter. Seanad: Nithe i dtosach suíonna - Commencement Matters: Tax Code (17 Oct 2023)

Victor Boyhan: I thank the Minister of State for that comprehensive response. I acknowledge and accept that this is a key pillar of Government policy in respect of bringing more land into active use for residential housing. I refer now to my only request. The Taoiseach is on record as saying he is proposing some changes to this tax. The RZLT is a universal, one-size-fits-all tax that does not take into...

She is, after all, the lead Minister in relation to forestry and I acknowledge that. The European Commission has now approved under the EU state aid rules Ireland’s new forestry programme. We are now at the start, albeit...

Seanad: Nithe i dtosach suíonna - Commencement Matters: Forestry Sector (28 Sep 2023)

Victor Boyhan: I thank the Minister of State for all the positives, with which I have no difficulty, but the Commencement matter was intended to ask her to establish a national forestry authority. There was no mention of such an authority in the response, which is what the Commencement matter focused on. It was a simple question of a few lines. Is the Minister of State supportive of the principle of...
