Ceisteanna - Questions - Priority Questions: Straitéis 20 Bliain don Ghaeilge (11 Mar 2015)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: Tuigim nach bhfuil deis ag an Aire Stáit déileáil leis na moltaí ar fad nó iad a mheas go hiomlán go fóill, ach tá an straitéis 20 bliain ann le cúpla bliain anuas. Tá an staidéar ar a bhfuil sé bunaithe ann chomh maith, an staidéar cuimsitheach teangeolaíochta. Foilsíodh an staidéar sin i 2007 agus sa...

Ceisteanna - Questions - Priority Questions: Straitéis 20 Bliain don Ghaeilge (11 Mar 2015)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: Tuigim an méid atá ráite ag an Aire Stáit agus aontaím leis ar bhealach amháin. Ach sa deireadh thiar thall, nach bhfuil sé níos tábhachtaí an straitéis a chur i bhfeidhm, seachas a bheith ag caint fúithi? Táimid de shíor ag caint faoi seo. Tá an t-am ag imeacht agus tá an Ghaeilge, sna Gaeltachtaí agus...

Ceisteanna - Questions - Priority Questions: Straitéis 20 Bliain don Ghaeilge (11 Mar 2015)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: 2. To ask the Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht an bhfuil sé i gceist aici na moltaí ar fad atá déanta sa tuarascáil ón bhFochoiste Oireachtais um an Straitéis 20 Bliain don Ghaeilge,a chur san áireamh agus Acht na dTeangacha Oifigiúla (Leasú) á dhréachtadh agus á thabhairt os comhair na dTithe agus cathain a...

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: Baineann an cheist seo leis an Straitéis 20 Bliain don Ghaeilgeagus an tuairisc a dhein an comhchoiste maidir leis sin. Cén uair atá an Aire chun na tograí agus na moltaí a leag an coiste amach a chur i bhfeidhm?

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: 481. To ask the Minister for Education and Skills the reason Student Universal Support Ireland classes an applicant's parents as the applicant's legal guardians for assessing eligibility for grants and so on until the applicant is 21 years of age, regardless of whether the applicant is living at home or living independently when, on the other hand, the State recognises someone as an adult at...

An Bille um an gCeathrú Leasú is Triocha ar an mBunreacht (Neodracht) 2013: An Dara Céim [Comhaltaí Príobháideacha] - Thirty-fourth Amendment to the Constitution (Neutrality) Bill 2013: Second Stage [Private Members] (6 Mar 2015)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: Tá sé ríthábhachtach go bhfuilimid ag déileáil leis an mBille seo inniu. Is trua nár glacadh le Bille eile dá leithéid a chuir muid chun tosaigh sa bhliain 2003, nuair ba léir do phobal na hÉireann - measaim go bhfuil sé soiléir fós - go raibh sé riachtanach go mbeadh neodrachas míleata istigh sa Bhunreacht i...

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: I will try to wrap up má thugann tú deis gasta dom. Ba mhaith liom an méid a dúirt mé ag cruinniú coiste le déanaí mar gheall ar an bhfianaise atá ag Amnesty International maidir leis na gialla a bhí i Guantánamo a cheartú. Níl fianaise acu ó na gialla sin. Is léir, áfach, ó na ríomhphoist ó...

Gender Recognition Bill 2014 [Seanad]: Second Stage (Resumed) (5 Mar 2015)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: When we adjourned the debate, I was making the point that the issues arising for inter-sex people were not adequately addressed in the Bill as it stood. I hope we will be able to introduce amendments on Committee Stage to improve the legislation in this regard. Discussions about psychiatrists aside, it is clear that some inter-sex people believe the designation of "male" or "female" on...

Gender Recognition Bill 2014 [Seanad]: Second Stage (5 Mar 2015)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: Tá sé i gceist agam m'am a roinnt leis an Teachta Sandra McLellan. Fáiltím roimh an mBille seo agus fáiltíonn mo pháirtí roimhe freisin in ainneoin go bhfuil fadhbanna móra leis agus go bhfuil gnéithe ann ar chóir athrú. Luaigh an Teachta Ó Deaghaidh a lán de na háiteanna atá fadbhanna agamsa leo. Luaigh...

Other Questions: National Internship Scheme Administration (5 Mar 2015)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: The figures in the Indecon report commissioned by the Department are outdated, but even they showed that many of those who progressed on to work were on lower pay than their colleagues after one year. Any new study would bear out this experience. Does the Minister of State accept that interns making complaints during their periods of internship or afterwards endanger their chances of having...

Other Questions: National Internship Scheme Administration (5 Mar 2015)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: 8. To ask the Minister for Social Protection if she will commission a further, and comprehensive, evaluation of the JobBridge Scheme, in view of the changing economic context in which it operates. [9312/15]

Other Questions: National Internship Scheme Administration (5 Mar 2015)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: Will the Minister take an honest look at the JobBridge scheme and its wider interaction with the labour market to ensure that further paying jobs are not displaced, given that the original Indecon report dealt with year 1? It is now four years in place. Does the Minister consider it appropriate at this stage to have a further evaluation?

Other Questions: National Internship Scheme Administration (5 Mar 2015)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: The Minister of State quoted 3% as the percentage of employers that admitted using JobBridge to replace existing employment. He did not quote the other figure, that a whopping 29% of employers said that in the absence of JobBridge they would have taken on a person in paid employment instead. We are poles apart on JobBridge. I will not persuade him here. However, even if he looks at...

Ceisteanna - Questions - Priority Questions: Youth Unemployment Measures (5 Mar 2015)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: 5. To ask the Minister for Social Protection the rationale behind her decision to make mandatory the proposed new First Steps programme for disadvantaged young persons. [9401/15]

Ceisteanna - Questions - Priority Questions: Youth Unemployment Measures (5 Mar 2015)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: As presented, the new youth development internship, First Steps, is basically a reincarnation of the JobBridge scheme which is targeted specifically at disadvantaged young people. Why is First Steps a mandatory scheme unlike the much promoted and voluntary JobBridge scheme?
