Danny Healy-Rae: He did.
- Ceisteanna ó Cheannairí - Leaders' Questions (21 Sep 2023)
Danny Healy-Rae: Why did the Tánaiste not make a submission then?
- Ceisteanna ó Cheannairí - Leaders' Questions (21 Sep 2023)
Danny Healy-Rae: I am stating the facts as well. Wherever the €626 million went, it did not go to the Killarney bypass or the Cork-Kerry economic corridor as it is also called. It did not go there anyway. That is a fact. It has been stopped because TII has been starved of the funding to do the assessments. If the Minister states that anyone could have made a submission, why did Deputy...
- Ceisteanna ó Cheannairí - Leaders' Questions (21 Sep 2023)
Danny Healy-Rae: Where were they? They are allowed to do what they like and at the same time no young lad in Kerry can get a driving test. Does the Government want to keep them off the road as well? There are 23,000 vehicle movements every day on the Killarney route I am talking about. Their safety is being compromised. He kicked up a big hullabaloo the other day saying he was going reduce speed limits...
- Ceisteanna ó Cheannairí - Leaders' Questions (21 Sep 2023)
Danny Healy-Rae: I will exclude Deputy O'Brien then but I will not exclude the rest of them.
- Ceisteanna ar Sonraíodh Uain Dóibh - Priority Questions: Student Accommodation (21 Sep 2023)
Danny Healy-Rae: 73. To ask the Minister for Education and Skills if he will outline what measures he is taking to assist students (details supplied) attending colleges in Cork and Limerick, especially first-year students, in finding on-campus accommodation. [40913/23]
- Ceisteanna ar Sonraíodh Uain Dóibh - Priority Questions: Student Accommodation (21 Sep 2023)
Danny Healy-Rae: The Minister will appreciate that we, in Kerry, have serious problems with students finding accommodation in places like Limerick and Cork. What can he do and what will he do in the future? More importantly this year, what can be done for all these students who do not have a place in Limerick and Cork today?
- Ceisteanna ar Sonraíodh Uain Dóibh - Priority Questions: Student Accommodation (21 Sep 2023)
Danny Healy-Rae: Of course, I welcome what has happened in Tralee. However, I am talking about students who do not have accommodation in Cork and Limerick today. For whatever reason their courses are in those colleges at this time. They are travelling by bus. They cannot drive themselves because they cannot get a driving test in Kerry - it is an impossibility. The leaving cert results come out too late....
- Ceisteanna ar Sonraíodh Uain Dóibh - Priority Questions: Student Accommodation (21 Sep 2023)
Danny Healy-Rae: First year students find it the toughest. Second- and third-year students may have accommodation sorted before the holidays. These students are in a scramble and are finding it very tough. Some students from Kilcummin and Killarney are trying to rent a hotel room. Their parents are trying to help them. They are finding it very difficult and the rent prices are being increased by the...
- Written Answers — Department of Education and Skills: Grant Payments (21 Sep 2023)
Danny Healy-Rae: 288. To ask the Minister for Education and Skills if he will make a change to the SUSI guidelines that presently penalises students who continue to work part-time outside of holidays, putting them over the threshold for the SUSI grant. [40914/23]
- Mortgage Interest Relief: Motion (Resumed) [Private Members] (20 Sep 2023)
Danny Healy-Rae: I am glad to get an opportunity to talk on this very serious matter before us this evening. While I welcome that Sinn Féin is bringing the motion forward, I do not exactly agree 100% that this will be targeted enough to help the people who are in trouble. What I cannot understand is that the Government is agreeing to these interest rate increases, and the Government is saying the...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: National Car Testing: Discussion (20 Sep 2023)
Danny Healy-Rae: This is a very important debate. Ms Coleman said that the majority of the testers would be delivered to Dublin. I regret that because people in rural areas such as Killarney and Cahersiveen have distances to travel. It is not good enough for young lads who need a licence to go to work or to travel long distances to college because they cannot not get places to rent in Limerick or Cork to...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: National Car Testing: Discussion (20 Sep 2023)
Danny Healy-Rae: I am asking if the witnesses can do anything for Kerry, for Killarney and Tralee. Are we at the end of the line? Will Mr. Walsh admit that 12 months is too long to have to wait to apply for a test?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: National Car Testing: Discussion (20 Sep 2023)
Danny Healy-Rae: I do not think that Mr. Walsh really comprehends the situation that we have. It is just not acceptable and I am asking Mr. Walsh if he thinks it's acceptable to have to wait 12 months before one can apply for a test.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: National Car Testing: Discussion (20 Sep 2023)
Danny Healy-Rae: That is an awful long time for youngsters who have their lessons done and who have done all that it is required, including the theory test and so on. All Mr. Walsh can tell me at this point is that he hopes the thing will be in order by the middle of next year, the middle of 2024. God almighty, that is like the story, leave horse until you get grass. It is not good enough. If Mr. Walsh...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: National Car Testing: Discussion (20 Sep 2023)
Danny Healy-Rae: Just to add, there is a need for lorry drivers and a need for-----
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: National Car Testing: Discussion (20 Sep 2023)
Danny Healy-Rae: They are all held up as well. It is just not acceptable. What happened that the wait time went from six weeks to 12 months? What has caused this?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: National Car Testing: Discussion (20 Sep 2023)
Danny Healy-Rae: The NDLS needs to focus on this. What it is doing is just not good enough. Again, I am calling on the Minister to do something for people who are waiting for 12 months and are being told that they will have to wait for 12 months before they can actually apply for their driving test. The Department should forget about it and let them on the road now until such time as the NDLS comes along...

Danny Healy-Rae: 97. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport if he is aware of the implications the reduction of the speed limits on national roads will have on drivers' hours for professional drivers; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [40006/23]
