Niamh Smyth: I thank Deputy Fitzmaurice for facilitating me. I will begin by refuting some of the comments made by Deputy Catherine Martin. First, I congratulate her on her election tonight as chairperson of the new women's caucus in Leinster House. However, I refute her accusations that I or the Minister, two rural Deputies from the constituency of Cavan-Monaghan, care any less about the biodiversity...
- Other Questions: Brexit Issues (8 Nov 2017)
Niamh Smyth: On his recent visit to Cavan the Minister had the privilege of taking a guided tour around McCarren's where, as he is well aware, there has been significant investment. The mushroom industry in the constituency has been badly affected since the announcement of Brexit, following which the Border counties will be at...

Niamh Smyth: I agree with the Minister. The continuation of an invisible border for Border counties such as Cavan and Monaghan must be of the utmost importance for the Minister and the Government in negotiations. - Other Questions: State Pensions (7 Nov 2017)
Niamh Smyth: I appreciate what the Minister is saying. My experience is that more people are being asked to retire at 65 who do not want to, who feel they have a lot more to give and who are quite willing and anxious to keep working. There are many fit, able, capable and young 65 year olds out there who are quite anxious to keep working and who find it rather humiliating to have to retire and then go on...

- Other Questions: State Pension (Contributory) (7 Nov 2017)
Niamh Smyth: I welcome the Minister's response. I note how she states the issue also affects men. Of course, the irony is that, no more than in the case of the Minister, 100% of the complaints I have received in my clinic have been from women and we can all appreciate their frustration. They reach that point in their life where they think they will receive the full State pension and then realise,...
