- Seanad: Civil Defence Bill 2023: Second Stage (18 May 2023)
Martin Conway: I concur with Senator Wall's comments on the work of the Civil Defence. I remember at the time of the serious floods in County Clare in 2010 and the big freeze in 2009 the work done by the Civil Defence was extraordinary. As we have no other speakers offering, I call on the Minister of State to conclude.
- Seanad: Civil Defence Bill 2023: Second Stage (18 May 2023)
Martin Conway: Before I get to the formalities, and even though they have just left the Chamber, I welcome pupils from Kilcloon National School, who are here as guests of Minister of State, Deputy Thomas Byrne. I was not going to interrupt the Minister of State, Deputy Burke, to say that, but somebody will tell them that their name is on the record of the House.

- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (17 May 2023)
Martin Conway: I have organised briefing on hemochromatosis this afternoon in the audiovisual room. The former Deputy, Senator and Seanad Leader, Maurice Manning, who has hemochromatosis, will speak. This is important because many people have the condition. It would much be much appreciated if Senators could attend or arrange for a member of their staff to attend. I think it will be very informative I...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Access to Community Neurological Rehabilitation Teams: Discussion (17 May 2023)
Martin Conway: I thank Deputies Kenny and Hourigan for letting me go ahead of them. I must attend a very important meeting with the Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth at 10.30 a.m. Our guests are very welcome and I thank them for their ongoing work. Ms Rogers said in her opening statement that budget 2023 provided funding for an additional 23 specialist nurses. How many...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Access to Community Neurological Rehabilitation Teams: Discussion (17 May 2023)

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Access to Community Neurological Rehabilitation Teams: Discussion (17 May 2023)
Martin Conway: In terms of their dealings with the HSE, our guests spoke about their frustration with ongoing delays. While Covid-19 was clearly an issue, there are delays that should not have happened. Is there any person in the HSE that they engage with on a regular basis?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Access to Community Neurological Rehabilitation Teams: Discussion (17 May 2023)
Martin Conway: Ms Rogers does not have to name anyone but is there an individual with whom she liaises on a regular basis? A lot of organisations that appear before this committee tell us that there is not a lead person in the HSE with whom they deal, or that the lead person keeps changing and so on. I am just curious to know if there are protocols in place and if they are working. Is there meaningful...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Access to Community Neurological Rehabilitation Teams: Discussion (17 May 2023)

- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (11 May 2023)
Martin Conway: I stand today for one purpose, and that is to second Senator Wilson's proposal that this House play an active role in ensuring that Garda Jeremiah Coonan receives the Scott medal for bravery. I think it is an oversight. Anybody who saves a human life does something unique and precious, and something that really and truly is an act of humanity. In this case, Garda Coonan risked his life and...
