Covid-19 (Local Government): Statements (27 May 2020)

Peter Fitzpatrick: On a point of order, there are many Deputies here belonging to different groups. I thought there was a maximum of two allowed per party. I see many Deputies who should not be in this Chamber. I ask the Acting Chairman to have a look. I am not trying to be smart on this. If people outside are obeying the rules, I do not see any reason we should not obey the rules in this House.

Peter Fitzpatrick: 535. To ask the Minister for Health if he has been briefed on the matter of hospital discharges into nursing homes (details supplied); if his attention has been drawn to specific evidence that Covid-19 was likely introduced into some nursing homes in this way; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7363/20]

Covid-19 (Health): Statements (21 May 2020)

Peter Fitzpatrick: What percentage of residents in nursing homes and residential homes suspected of contracting Covid-19 between February and May 2020 were admitted to hospital for treatment? I know the percentage of residents from such homes admitted to hospital during a typical flu season is quite low. We all know that Covid-19 poses a much more serious health risk than a flu and I would have thought the...

Covid-19 (Health): Statements (21 May 2020)

Peter Fitzpatrick: I want to raise another important issue regarding the recent handling of the Covid-19 outbreak, that is, the "do not resuscitate" order. Most families are totally unprepared when confronted with the discussion around a "do not resuscitate" order when a loved one becomes gravely ill. I am aware the HSE guidelines place an obligation on healthcare providers to consult with patients where...

Covid-19 (Health): Statements (21 May 2020)

Peter Fitzpatrick: I welcome the opportunity to participate in today's debate. I offer my sincere condolences to the families and friends of those who have died over the past week due to Covid-19. The number of deaths is decreasing, which is to be welcomed but the sorrow and grief of those who have lost loved ones to this terrible virus is as painful as at any other time. I would also like to take this...

Peter Fitzpatrick: If the Ceann Comhairle would give me time, he will understand why I am asking this.

Covid-19 (Justice and Equality): Statements (13 May 2020)

Peter Fitzpatrick: I hope he will give me an extra minute for that please. If over 20 people were killed on a building site, the Health and Safety Authority would be involved. It is likely that the Garda and various other State agencies would also be involved. The point I am making is that in those situations there is a clear protocol in place, but in the situation of the Dealgan House Nursing Home there was...

Brexit: Statements (7 May 2020)

Peter Fitzpatrick: I come from the Border area, where people are concerned about what is happening in the North and in the South, and the different approaches on both sides, especially given the high rate of the coronavirus in the Border areas. With the bank holiday weekend approaching in the North, people are afraid that a big wave of people will come from the North to the South and vice versa. Will the...

Brexit: Statements (7 May 2020)

Peter Fitzpatrick: Coming from a Border county, I know the devastating effects that Brexit will have if we do not put in place the necessary measures to deal with it. There are still so many unanswered questions. I am deeply concerned that its effects could be disastrous on a Border town like Dundalk. Last week, I raised the different approaches to deal with Covid-19 on both sides of the Border and the...
