I compliment those who have been in contact with me and other Members in an effort to highlight the difficulties that will arise from the significant cuts set out. I condemn the actions taken by the Government which has sought to undermine the provision of guidance counselling in over 700 schools, losing up to 1,000 teachers....

Timmy Dooley: That was not made clear as schools still have concerns. Last night, the Minister suggested they would not on the basis of a whole allocation. It is not true. There has been an element of hiding behind facts in this debate. We are having a decent debate in which we can discuss this in the full view of those affected, people who deal with children at the coalface.

The Department of Education and Skills completed a spending review and published it on its website in September.
