- Seanad: Order of Business (10 Jul 2012)
Terry Brennan: The events of the weekend in the Phoenix Park must not be tolerated and require an immediate investigation. A fortnight ago, shortly after the murder on the streets of Dublin of the eminent journalist, Mr. Eugene Moloney, I was visited in the House by a young man and his family. The young man in question, as a university student, had been attacked in the centre of the capital 25 years ago....
- Seanad: Order of Business (10 Jul 2012)
Terry Brennan: I call for an urgent debate and investigation into recent events. Similar incidents are taking place in many towns. Only two or three weeks ago, the eminent journalist, Mr. Eugene Moloney, was murdered while going about his business. The young man to whom I refer was doing the same. Gardaà must be more visible on the streets at night. We can talk all day and night but action must be...
- Seanad: Order of Business (5 Jul 2012)
Terry Brennan: Yesterday I read in the newspaper about a lady returning to a house in Donegal to discover it had been ransacked and items had been robbed. She rang the local Garda station to discover the Garda could not come to investigate the crime; she had to collect him in her car and bring him to her home to see what had happened.
- Seanad: Order of Business (5 Jul 2012)
Terry Brennan: It is laughable.
- Seanad: Order of Business (5 Jul 2012)
Terry Brennan: I understand, but I call for an urgent debate in the House with the chief superintendent, the Minister or both. It is a necessity. It does not matter what day of the week it is, break-ins and robberies occur. I am aware of six such incidents in my neighbourhood which have a common denominator. I am convinced there must be local input if a house is robbed between 10.15 a.m. and 11.30 a.m....
- Seanad: Order of Business (4 Jul 2012)
Terry Brennan: I support the calls for a debate on sick leave in the public service. An urgent debate is required on the astronomical costs involved and I call on the relevant Ministers to participate. The demand for sports capital funding this year - which is seven and a half times every â¬1 available - is unprecedented. Members will be aware that applications for funding under the 2012 sports capital...
- Seanad: Order of Business (4 Jul 2012)
Terry Brennan: I hope not. Some 2,150 sports clubs and organisations have applied for funding, totalling â¬224 million. However, there is only â¬30 million in funding available. This means the Minister will be only able to grant a fraction of the funding being sought. The task of assessing of applications will be difficult. There is no doubt but that there will be many disappointed clubs around the...

- Seanad: Wildlife (Amendment) Bill 2012: Committee and Remaining Stages (4 Jul 2012)
Terry Brennan: The Cooley Peninsula from which I come is rich in heritage and wildlife of all types. The arrival of the Brent geese can be timed as they land in my area also on 23 October. The Cooley Mountains are rich in wildlife. The Minister mentioned farmers and the part they play as part-time caretakers of our heritage and environment. Each of us has a part to play and each of us is a part-time...
- Seanad: Order of Business (3 Jul 2012)
Terry Brennan: Other Senators have referred to the sick leave issue. I recently read that an average of 5,000 sick days are taken every day by HSE staff. It beggars belief that there are 5,000 sick days taken every day on average in one concern in this country. I am delighted to hear that the new bridge over the River Boyne is about to be named the Mary McAleese Bridge and commend my colleague, Senator...
