- Ceisteanna ar Reachtaíocht a Gealladh - Questions on Promised Legislation (8 Nov 2018)
Paul Murphy: I offer Solidarity-People Before Profit's sympathy and solidarity to Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin's friends and family. With regard to promised legislation, I want to ask about the Employment (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2017, in particular those provisions relating to bogus self-employment, on which an amendment was passed against the wishes of the Government. I do...

I will speak more extensively...
- Select Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Finance Bill 2018: Committee Stage (Resumed) (8 Nov 2018)
Paul Murphy: The Minister has a report and that is great. How much does Revenue lose yearly as a result of bogus self-employment? If the Government claims it is serious about this issue, that it accepts the report, why is the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection not keeping records of cases of bogus self-employment that it finds?
- Select Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Finance Bill 2018: Committee Stage (Resumed) (8 Nov 2018)
Paul Murphy: Is it not problematic that the Minister's answer is so algebraic, namely, "If it is this of this, then it is this"? That is just maths, not a report. We are supposed to have a report to find out what the problems are. The Minister does not have an estimate of how much money is lost by the State. He is only able to tell me that if it is this, then it is this. That is fine, but it is not...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Social Protection: Bogus Self-Employment: Discussion (8 Nov 2018)
Paul Murphy: I congratulate the committee on taking up this issue. Like other members, I am shocked the Department is not keeping records of bogus self-employment. Such an approach is the definition of putting one's head in the sand when there is this massive perceived issue. I accept the Department has said that the perception is greater than the reality. I would be very surprised, with the benefit...
- Agreement with Kazakhstan: Motion (6 Nov 2018)
Paul Murphy: This agreement and the fact that Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil support it tell us everything we need to know about the truth of European Union trade policy. It is only words and empty rhetoric when it comes to human rights. In its actions the European Union is concerned about profits for big EU companies. It is concerned about market access and willing to dress it up in whatever language...

- Ceisteanna ó Cheannairí - Leaders' Questions (25 Oct 2018)
Paul Murphy: What about knocking down schools?
- Ceisteanna ó Cheannairí - Leaders' Questions (25 Oct 2018)
Paul Murphy: Over 1,000 pupils have no school to go to. Parents are in the situation of scrambling to come up with a plan for how to take care of their children. With 42 schools now to be inspected, this seems to be the tip of the iceberg. How many more pupils are being taught in schools with an 80% chance of a wall falling down in the event of a storm? By the end of the mid-term break, there could be...
- Ceisteanna ó Cheannairí - Leaders' Questions (25 Oct 2018)
Paul Murphy: It is disingenuous of the Tánaiste to counterpose the question of fixing the problem and having a discussion about why it happened. If we do not discover why the problem happened, then we are going to be faced with the problem repeatedly. I have heard from people involved in the construction industry that it will probably be necessary to knock some of the schools in question and...
