Colm Burke: I know that. This is a technicality. Amendment No. 50 states "‘Act of 2018’ means the Civil Law (Missing Persons) Act 2018".

Colm Burke: I agree with the amendments. We included the coroner issue in the original Bill because we were talking about two procedures. I can see why the Department and the Minister have chosen to add clarity by providing for these issues to be dealt with by one stream. In the circumstances, it is appropriate that they be dealt with by the courts only.

Colm Burke: I welcome the amendment. The issue of insurance will arise but it is important that there is some safety mechanism in place. It is important that a person who takes the decision to apply for such a court order will be able to effect the necessary protection from his or her point of view.

It states that the Act of 2018 means the Civil Law (Missing Persons) Act 2018, whereas at the start of the Bill we were changing the wording to the Civil Law (Presumption of Death) Act. Could we get clarification on that issue?
