Ceisteanna ar Sonraíodh Uain Dóibh - Priority Questions: Departmental Schemes (30 Jan 2024)

Paul Donnelly: I welcome the news because I know a number of the projects that were in touch were concerned. I heard that one project faced a €13,000 increase with regard to the minimum wage. The new needs-based model is important and it is working. I have said on numerous occasions - and still believe - that we should move to the model whereby every project is brought up to the minimum wage in...

Paul Donnelly: I thank the Minister for bringing forward the Bill. Sinn Féin supports its overall purpose and I will address some of the issues that have been brought forward during the pre-legislative process and identified by others. I found the pre-legislative process and the committee meetings very useful. I thank everyone who engaged with them, including the Charities Regulator, the ICCL and...

Ceisteanna ar Pholasaí nó ar Reachtaíocht - Questions on Policy or Legislation (25 Jan 2024)

Paul Donnelly: Today, a call was made for sick patients to go to GPs and other pathways to try to avoid emergency departments. Unfortunately, in Tyrrelstown in my constituency, their GP clinic will close in February and, as we know, there is overwhelming evidence that people are dying in emergency departments. Let me give an example. The Tánaiste talked about primary care, early diagnosis and access...

Housing and Homeless Prevention: Motion [Private Members] (23 Jan 2024)

Paul Donnelly: The buying up of homes by international vulture funds in Balgriffin is not a new phenomenon. I was in this Chamber in 2021 when a similar-style fund took 121 homes off the market in Bay Meadows in my constituency of Dublin West. That was 121 homes taken out of the reach of any first-time buyer wishing to purchase a family home. Words are important here and I use the word "home" because...

Ceisteanna ar Reachtaíocht a Gealladh - Questions on Promised Legislation (18 Jan 2024)

Paul Donnelly: I commend the gardaí in Dublin West on the hard work they are doing and the commitment they have, particularly in the difficult circumstances since the horrific murders on Christmas Eve. Joint Oireachtas Committee on Social Protection: Energy Poverty: Discussion (17 Jan 2024)

Paul Donnelly: To start, I wish to pass on my condolences for Mr. Paul Kelly, his family, friends and colleagues. This is very sad news. I have a couple of questions. Some of them follow on from Deputy Ó Cuív's questions. I will give two examples. In one, a constituent of mine contacted me regarding his mother, who was on pay-as-you-go tariffs for both electricity and gas. When he did an...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Social Protection: Energy Poverty: Discussion (17 Jan 2024)

Paul Donnelly: It related to the increase in rents. It is rare, but I have seen a couple of renovictions where people had to leave properties. I cited an example where rents had doubled. I do not know whether this is a matter for the SEAI. If we are going to consider giving substantial grants to private landlords, though, it needs to be stitched in that rents do not increase.
