- Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (11 Jul 2024)
Brian Stanley: Let us try to agree on this. I agree with Deputy Murphy that we should meet Uisce Éireann first. We will try to target that meeting for the first week, subject to availability, and then have a meeting with UL in the second week. Is that agreed? Agreed.
- Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (11 Jul 2024)
Brian Stanley: I know the secretariat will do its best to try to jig those arrangements around. That concludes our consideration of the work programme for the day. The last item on the public agenda is any other business. Do members wish to raise any matters under this heading? No. The committee will now go into private session, briefly, before adjourning until 9.30 on Thursday, 19 September 2024....
- Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (11 Jul 2024)
Brian Stanley: I do not know what impression Deputy Murphy got but I got the impression at that meeting that there were minors literally landing at the front door of Tusla and the agency was being asked to look after these young people. Accommodation and somebody to supervise had then to be found instantly. It is a totally unacceptable situation. Is the Deputy okay with that response?
- Domestic, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence: Motion [Private Members] (10 Jul 2024)
Brian Stanley: I commend Natasha O'Brien, who is in the Gallery, and thank the Social Democrats for bringing forward this motion. It is another motion, at a time when we need to move from talking to action. According to the Sexual Abuse and Violence in Ireland, SAVI, report, domestic, sexual and gender-based violence is at epidemic levels in our society. All of the reports on this matter show that....
- Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Domestic Violence (10 Jul 2024)
Brian Stanley: I thank the Minister for the reply. She mentioned the increased funding, which is welcome. In the case of Laois, a location has been identified and the council is very much on board, both the elected members and the council management. It is important that we try to move that on. We have an excellent service in the county, the Laois Domestic Abuse Service. The level of funding for these...
- Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Domestic Violence (10 Jul 2024)
Brian Stanley: I thank the Leas-Cheann Comhairle. I raise this important issue with the Minister, Deputy McEntee, this morning regarding the nine counties that do not have domestic violence refuges. This is a very serious matter. We know there is a huge problem out there. A commitment was given some years back that the nine counties would have services. The Minister has stated publicly that she is...

- Ceisteanna ar Pholasaí nó ar Reachtaíocht - Questions on Policy or Legislation (4 Jul 2024)
Brian Stanley: I raise recycling and bin collections. The deposit return scheme has come in and the good people of the State are, by and large, doing the right thing with plastic bottles and cans. I support the scheme and use it but because less stuff is going into recycling bins, the private companies that collect waste are now charging us for that. We are charged for the levy on plastic bottles and...
- Ceisteanna ar Pholasaí nó ar Reachtaíocht - Questions on Policy or Legislation (4 Jul 2024)
Brian Stanley: It has gone out of control. The Government needs to take back control with a franchise or some other model with local authorities. Other EU states are doing it. Will the Government look at this issue again? The scheme is good but these are the unintended consequences.
- Ceisteanna ar Pholasaí nó ar Reachtaíocht - Questions on Policy or Legislation (4 Jul 2024)

Brian Stanley: Apologies have been received from Deputies Ciarán Cannon, Imelda Munster and John Brady. You are all very welcome. Before we start, I wish to explain some limitations to parliamentary privilege and the practice of the Houses as regards references you may make to other persons...

- Public Accounts Committee: Financial Statements 2022: Waterways Ireland (4 Jul 2024)
Brian Stanley: I thank Mr. McDonagh. Recently, I had communications from the committee that the issue of fencing on the canal would be raised with him. He sent the committee a photograph of tents. I am not too sure why we received that. We were aware of the situation with tents along the canal because it is not too far from here and also because there is considerable media coverage in that regard. For...

- Public Accounts Committee: Financial Statements 2022: Waterways Ireland (4 Jul 2024)
