Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport and Communications: Concert Licensing: GAA and Aiken Promotions (16 Jul 2014)

Michael Colreavy: Mr. McKenna said he was shocked. He was so confident that it would go well that he went on holidays. Something unexpected happened, which he felt was not in keeping with the discussions and meetings. To what extent was the chief executive involved in those discussions and meetings with Mr. McKenna?

Michael Colreavy: It is a very good one.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport and Communications: 25 Years of Independent Broadcasting: Independent Broadcasters of Ireland (15 Jul 2014)

Michael Colreavy: I welcome our guests and wish them a happy 25th anniversary. I understand their frustration and I know that they need much more than patronising comments from members. However, it would be wrong of me if I did not state that the area in which I live would be so much the poorer without independent radio. The loss of the independent radio would be massive to both public service and general...

Michael Colreavy: 320. To ask the Minister for Education and Skills the avenue left open to a student living 45.9 km from the college they attend in cases where an appeal hearing has determined they are living less than 45 km and is consequently awarded the adjacent rate of grant only. [31555/14]

To ask the Minister for Education and Skills if there are any additional supports to students who live 45 km from the college they attend; are approved only for the adjacent rate of the higher education grant and whose parents income is so limited as to put third level education totally beyond their means unless an amount equivalent to the full, non-adjacent rate of grant is paid. [31556/14]

Michael Colreavy: I move amendment No. 18:In page 9, to delete lines 15 and 16 and substitute the following:“(e) purchase land that is for sale, land swop, or lease for afforestation or any other forestry related activity,”.

Forestry Bill 2013: Report Stage (Resumed) (10 Jul 2014)

Michael Colreavy: Amendment No. 21 is similar in intent to amendment No. 16. Sometimes I believe the Government and Government agencies regard people as a problem and just do not trust them. It is believed that if people are told too much, they will make life difficult. We are moving towards a more enlightened model of community participation, not one based on the type of consultation we have always been...

Forestry Bill 2013: Report Stage (Resumed) (10 Jul 2014)

Michael Colreavy: I support Deputy Boyd Barrett's amendments.

Forestry Bill 2013: Report Stage (Resumed) (10 Jul 2014)

Michael Colreavy: I support Deputy Richard Boyd Barrett. I was not involved in the previous debates on the matter. This is well intentioned and, in the main, good legislation. Given that it is, I was surprised by the absence of the Rio standard, the gold standard for forestry management throughout the world. If the principles and activities of forestry management are undertaken within the Rio forest...

Forestry Bill 2013: Report Stage (Resumed) (10 Jul 2014)

Michael Colreavy: That is fine.

Forestry Bill 2013: Report Stage (Resumed) (10 Jul 2014)

Michael Colreavy: I move amendment No. 3:In page 6, line 19, to delete “0.1 hectare” and substitute “0.5 hectares and five metres in height”.Deputy Ferris sends his apologies and has asked me to take his place here.

Forestry Bill 2013: Report Stage (Resumed) (10 Jul 2014)

Michael Colreavy: The reasoning behind this amendment is simple. It is our view that 0.1 hectare is a very small area of land, not even a considerable back garden. We are concerned in regard to enforcing this legislation in terms of such a small area of land. It would seem more sensible to set the size at 0.5 hectares.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport and Communications: CIE: Chairman Designate (9 Jul 2014)

Michael Colreavy: I think I was here for the corresponding meeting last year, deputising for Deputy Ellis, who holds the transport brief, and here I am again. Last year I pointed out that I know Ms Jupp from her time working at Arthur Andersen many years ago. I knew then that she would go far and I know she is an exceptionally good chairperson of CIE so I have not been disappointed in any respect. I will...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport and Communications: CIE: Chairman Designate (9 Jul 2014)

Michael Colreavy: Is the business case that CIE put to the banks the same as that which is routinely presented to the NTA? Does the NTA not need the same information?
