- Leaders' Questions (6 Oct 2010)
Eamon Gilmore: I want to ask the Taoiseach two questions in regard to this matter. First, will he confirm to the House that the â¬50 million is gone, that we will not see it again and, as the spokesperson from the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government stated yesterday, the money will not be recovered? Second, will he finally acknowledge this was an appalling waste of money, a fact...

- Leaders' Questions (6 Oct 2010)
Eamon Gilmore: That is not true. The decision was not taken because all party agreement was not obtained. The decision was taken because an expert group set up to examine whether the system was reliable found it was just as, if not more, dodgy and unreliable to use electronic voting machines as both the Labour Party and Fine Gael pointed out when the exercise began. That is why the machines could not be...

- Leaders' Questions (5 Oct 2010)
Eamon Gilmore: Most people in the country are in a state of shock at what we heard on Thursday about the eventual cost of bailing out the banks - coming in at â¬50 billion - and all of the implications of that for public finances, taxation, State borrowing and the cost of borrowing. During the month of September, RTE ran two documentaries, entitled, "Freefall", which dealt in particular with the bank...
- Leaders' Questions (5 Oct 2010)
Eamon Gilmore: It is very strange that a series of events was triggered by Anglo Irish Bank people going to Bank of Ireland and telling them Anglo was facing insolvency and that this caused both Bank of Ireland and Allied Irish Banks to come rushing down to Government Buildings to talk about the banking crisis without ever mentioning that Anglo Irish Bank faced insolvency. Did the two banks not tell the...
- Order of Business (5 Oct 2010)
Eamon Gilmore: I join the Taoiseach and Deputy Kenny in expressing serious concern about what happened in Derry last night and I hope the Garda and PSNI are successful in finding out who was responsible, dealing with them and bringing them to justice. A significant amount of this type of activity has been building up for some time and it needs to be dealt with before it gets serious. I refer to the local...
- Order of Business (5 Oct 2010)
Eamon Gilmore: Are the rate payers of Dublin city and county to pay for this then? How will there not be additional costs? This is a new office. The McCarthy report recommended the abolition of regional authorities while it is proposed to legislate for regional authority for Dublin in this Bill. I do not understand how there cannot be costs attached to it. How will it be financed?

The Taoiseach seems to have indicated that the memorandum that will circulate with this Bill will indicate there will be no cost. If that is the case, how will that happen?
- Order of Business (30 Sep 2010)
Eamon Gilmore: No, there will not be ample time - that is the whole problem. The proposal from the Government is that the statements on the statement made officially by the Minister for Finance this morning on the full cost of the banking bailout should conclude at 3.30 p.m. today. This means that, in effect, the Government is proposing that the Dáil be given between two hours and 2.5 hours to discuss...
