Louise O'Reilly: Last week, a journalist said to me that this story will run and run. I concur with that opinion because the more answers we get, the more questions we have to ask. The State will not have to pick up the full tab for the €300 million but it will not be able to lay off any other part of the €1.7 billion to other sources, philanthropic or otherwise.

Louise O'Reilly: As one who does not support the involvement of the private sector in the public sector, which the witnesses, as public servants, may appreciate, it seems to me from what Ms Duffy is saying that the State will build the car park and an operating company will come in and make a profit from it. I do not think that will work well for patients.

Louise O'Reilly: That is what usually happens in practice. I am not convinced that is a good way to go but I understand that the Department may consider it, given the funding shortage. Last week, we discussed the naming rights for certain parts of the hospital.
