Colette Kelleher: I thank the Minister of State for attending today. I welcome the commissioning of the review by the Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government into funding for Traveller-specific accommodation and the implementation of the Traveller accommodation programmes. It followed a very useful meeting that we had, and I thank the Minister for acting upon that. I understand that the housing...
- Seanad: Commencement Matters: Traveller Accommodation (27 Sep 2017)
Colette Kelleher: I have two questions. One of them was answered by the Minister of State, namely, when the report be published. It will be published within the next week. I will monitor that and look forward to seeing that report. I welcome the expert group. While the expert group is welcome, it cannot be a delaying tactic or a way of kicking this urgent issue to touch. Over the past 18 years since the...
- Committee on Public Petitions: Business of Joint Committee (12 Jul 2017)
Colette Kelleher: While there is merit in what the Deputy said, it is equally the case that children need time to play. They spend long hours in school and there needs to be good value from the homework they undertake. It is important to have balance in children's lives. While they must, of course, learn, they must also play because they are children.

Colette Kelleher: There is certainly a gap in access to education for some children with autism. Children with autism are, in essence, being denied their right to a good education. There is a particular issue in the transition between primary and secondary school and it would be useful to get good information on that. I refer, for example, to the Cork autism education gap where the difference between the...
- Seanad: Order of Business (12 Jul 2017)

Given that there are 22 million refugees worldwide and with our commitment to support 4,000 by the end of 2017, this is a very important issue I hope...

- Seanad Public Consultation Committee: Children's Mental Health Services: Discussion (6 Jul 2017)
Colette Kelleher: I thank all of the 14 witnesses for their different perspectives. The bit of conflict is also helpful. We are not all in agreement and there are different ways of addressing child mental health. I was struck by Dr. O'Shea's and Dr. O'Brien's presentation, which drew our attention to the structural and societal reasons driving child mental ill health. They referenced the work of the Deep...
