- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: HSE Winter Plan: HSE (11 Nov 2020)
Lorraine Clifford-Lee: I appreciate that. The health and well-being of workers in maternity services are a priority, but the women of Ireland would appreciate if there was a dedicated task force to deal with maternity services and a paper published. There must be a way forward because women feel they have been forgotten. It would be a strong signal if something concrete could be put forward in the near future.

Lorraine Clifford-Lee: Gabhaim buíochas le Micheál Ó hÉanaigh agus lena chomhghleacaithe as a bheith anseo inniu. Is cuid de dhiaspóra na Gaeltachta mé mar is as an Seanphobal iad muintir mo mháthair. Chaith mé bliain iontach ag obair le Nemeton fadó fadó. Tá ceist agam maidir leis an mBreatimeacht. An féidir leis na finnéithe cur síos a...
- Seanad: Living with Covid-19 Restrictions: Statements (10 Nov 2020)
Lorraine Clifford-Lee: I am sharing time with Senator Malcolm Byrne. I thank the Minister for taking the time to come into the House and explain the rationale behind level 5. There has been a wide acceptance of the level 5 recommendations and good public buy-in. Many people have been upset by the measures. Business owners have been very upset because the very hard work they have put into their businesses has...

Lorraine Clifford-Lee: Gabhaim buíochas le Paula Melvin agus Julian de Spáinn as a bheith anseo agus as a gcur i láthair. Tá ceist agam maidir leis na coláistí samhraidh sna Gaeltachtaí. Tá bagairt shuntasach ann faoi láthair. Cén sórt airgead atá curtha ar fáil chun dul i ngleic leis an bhfadhb shuntasach sin an bhliain seo chugainn? An...

Lorraine Clifford-Lee: Tá ceist an-ghearr agam toisc go bhfuilimid faoi bhrú. Cuirim fáilte roimh na finnéithe. Araon leis an Seanadóir Ward, táim i mo chónaí i mBaile Átha Cliath ach is as Contae Phort Láirge mé agus is as an nGaeltacht mhuintir mo mháthar. Tá ceangal ann leis an nGaeltacht sin. Táim i mo chónaí i nDomhnach Bat i...

- Seanad: HSE Winter Plan: Statements (7 Oct 2020)
Lorraine Clifford-Lee: I am sharing my time with my colleague, Senator Fiona O'Loughlin. I thank the Minister of State for her very comprehensive statement on the winter plan. It is so important this winter, more so than ever before. I am happy to see that acute beds have been more than doubled and that there is a significant increase in sub-acute beds as well. Home support packages are the most important thing...

Lorraine Clifford-Lee: I move amendment No. 1: To delete all words after “That” and substitute the following: “the Bill be read a second time this day 12 months to allow for further consideration of the Bill and to allow the National Screening Advisory Committee to continue with its work and report on progress.” I thank Senator Norris for bringing the Bill before the House and for...
- Seanad: National Screening Advisory Committee Bill 2020: Second Stage (30 Sep 2020)
Lorraine Clifford-Lee: The Senator's support was very much appreciated but drawing parallels between abortion care and what is contained in this Bill is not helpful. Perhaps the Senator could bear that in mind when discussing it in future.
- Seanad: Nithe i dtosach suíonna - Commencement Matters: Health Services Provision (25 Sep 2020)
Lorraine Clifford-Lee: The Minister of State is very welcome to the Chamber and I thank him for responding to this matter. It is fitting that we are here today to talk about access to contraception given that tomorrow, 26 September, is World Contraception Day. As the Minister is aware, a working group on access to contraception was established in April 2019 by the then Minister for Health, Deputy Harris, to...
- Seanad: Nithe i dtosach suíonna - Commencement Matters: Health Services Provision (25 Sep 2020)
Lorraine Clifford-Lee: I am very disappointed with the Minister of State's response. I understand the Covid pandemic is causing havoc, particularly for the Department. This issue existed long before Covid so I am very disappointed to hear that no progress at all has been made on it. It is a core issue in the programme for Government. I will be taking it up with the Minister, Deputy Donnelly, to determine...

Lorraine Clifford-Lee: I would like to say a couple of words. It is great that this Bill has been passed. I would like to thank Opposition Members for their contribution, their suggestions and their amendments to the Bill as it passed through these Houses. - Seanad: Civil Law and Criminal Law (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2020: Second Stage (28 Jul 2020)
Lorraine Clifford-Lee: I welcome the Minister to the House to deal with this very important legislation. As my colleagues, Senators Gallagher and Ward, outlined, it is long overdue. I worked in the legal system for a number of years and faced many of the frustrations that the Bill seeks to address. It is very welcome, although it is a pity it has taken something like a global pandemic to bring about these...
