Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Horse and Greyhound Racing Fund Regulations 2023: Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (22 Nov 2023)

Paul Kehoe: I have only a small number of questions. I first want to welcome the Minister and his officials. This is a fund I very much support and welcome. There is a fantastic return for the Government’s investment into the industry. On the greyhound sector, I am aware that there was an issue a number of years ago about the closure of a number of greyhound tracks around the country and...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Horse and Greyhound Racing Fund Regulations 2023: Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (22 Nov 2023)

Paul Kehoe: I thank the Minister very much for that. In his statement on page 3, the Minister states that the total value of Irish foal exports sold at public auction in 2022 amounted to over €293 million. Last week Horse Sport Ireland appeared before the committee here regarding passports for foals and their sale. I do not believe Horse Sport Ireland falls under the Minister's responsibility....

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Horse and Greyhound Racing Fund Regulations 2023: Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (22 Nov 2023)

Paul Kehoe: I was not inspired by the replies from the officials from Horse Sport Ireland last week. This is a huge issue to many breeders who depend on the issuing of passports. I encourage the Minister and his Department to get on top of this, bring them in and meet them to tell them this is causing huge concerns to many breeders. The Minister rightly said that this realised €293 million in...

Vote 30 - Agriculture, Food and the Marine (Supplementary)

Paul Kehoe: I have just one further question for the Minister regarding nitrates and derogation. An issue that has been raised with me in recent days is the culling of in-calf dairy cows specifically. Dairy farmers in my area have a huge concern in this regard. Will there be any change of mind in regard to in-calf cows?

Vote 30 - Agriculture, Food and the Marine (Supplementary)
(22 Nov 2023)

Paul Kehoe: I thank the Cathaoirleach, the Minister and his officials. I have two or three very short questions. First, I very much welcome the investment in Rosslare Europort. I was there for the sod turning with the Minister of State, Deputy Patrick O'Donovan. As a result of Brexit we have seen dramatic changes in Rosslare Europort and a huge amount of Government investment has gone into customs...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Challenges Facing the Horse Sport Industry: Horse Sport Ireland (Resumed) (15 Nov 2023)

Paul Kehoe: I welcome the witnesses before the committee. I just want to concentrate on one issue. One of the burning issues I am dealing with on a weekly basis is that of horse passports. Anybody I have spoken to either in my constituency or outside the constituency is not very complimentary of HSI, and I do not blame them. If I was applying for a passport three years ago, how long would it have taken?
