The Labour Party's finance spokesperson was discussing defaulting on senior bondholders which legally would be the same as defaulting on deposit holders....

Mark Daly: As Senator McCarthy is well aware, that is what Deputy Burton stated this morning. She wanted to give bondholders a hair cut to a figure of 50% but no better man than the Minister for Finance, Deputy Brian Lenihan, to put the matter in simple terms.

Mark Daly: He stated it would be like going to a bank manager, telling him or her that we would default on a loan and asking for another one. This is what the Labour Party proposes to do in government. It wants to go back to the market to ask for more money, despite defaulting on our loan.
