Aer Lingus Share Disposal: Motion (Resumed) (27 May 2015)

Dara Calleary: They will rob them even more now. The staff who took that interest and are now pensioners have been forgotten about completely in this deal. Aer Lingus pensioners are not going to see anything from this deal. They will receive no comfort or recognition or reward from the deal. There is an irony in one of the commitments in the deal. I feel genuinely sorry for Deputies Michael McNamara...

Aer Lingus Share Disposal: Motion (Resumed) (27 May 2015)

Dara Calleary: It is rather like that rhyme we learned in school, "The Grand Old Duke of York" who led his troops up and down the hill. In this case, the Duchess of Cabra led her Labour Party troops up the Aer Lingus mountain and is leading them back down again. She is not even leading them as she has not appeared in the Chamber since yesterday to speak about the matter. You are in the vanguard and you...

Aer Lingus Share Disposal: Motion (Resumed) (27 May 2015)

Dara Calleary: I am not denying that. We did. I am putting that out there.

Aer Lingus Share Disposal: Motion (Resumed) (27 May 2015)

Dara Calleary: I apologise. I will. We sold it because-----

Aer Lingus Share Disposal: Motion (Resumed) (27 May 2015)

Dara Calleary: They are very complimentary. I am giving her a promotion.

Aer Lingus Share Disposal: Motion (Resumed) (27 May 2015)

Dara Calleary: We are not hiding the fact that we sold it, but we kept 25% because we did not want this day to happen where it would be gone and all of the commitments given in that deal would become worthless. Deputy Martin spoke this morning about the papers that are there for the Taoiseach to see if he took an interest in the agreements. While we sold it, Labour in particular made commitments around...

Aer Lingus Share Disposal: Motion (Resumed) (27 May 2015)

Dara Calleary: The Government does not listen to us anyway.

Order of Business (27 May 2015)

Dara Calleary: I have raised the credit guarantee (amendment) Bill on a number of occasions. The Minister, Deputy Bruton, and the Minister of State, Deputy Nash, have committed that it will include a provision for businesses whose banks are exiting the market. There are literally hundreds of jobs waiting on the enactment of this Bill. Will we see it before the end of this session, before the summer recess?

Order of Business (27 May 2015)

Dara Calleary: Will it be enacted by then?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Construction Contracts Act 2013: Chairman Designate of Panel of Adjudicators (26 May 2015)

Dara Calleary: I thank Professor Bunni for his presentation. He brings immense experience to this role. I was the Minister of State who accepted Senator Quinn's Bill on 8 March 2011. I commend Senator Quinn and also Seán Gallagher, who were instrumental in getting the Bill to this stage. Professor Bunni's role in disputology might be handier in this institution at times and I hope we will not need...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: All-Island Economy: Discussion (Resumed) (26 May 2015)

Dara Calleary: What is the earliest time one can leave Belfast for Dublin?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: All-Island Economy: Discussion (Resumed) (26 May 2015)

Dara Calleary: When does one arrive in Dublin?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: All-Island Economy: Discussion (Resumed) (26 May 2015)

Dara Calleary: That proves another argument - that everything is centred in Dublin.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: All-Island Economy: Discussion (Resumed) (26 May 2015)

Dara Calleary: Unless they had the referee with them.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: All-Island Economy: Discussion (Resumed) (26 May 2015)

Dara Calleary: I apologise to the Minister. I missed his opening remarks as I was welcoming the new Member. I would probably go in the same direction as Deputy Tóibín. Perhaps it is a political issue. I get a sense, not just in enterprise, that the Government’s mindset stops at the Border. Perhaps I am building on Deputy Tóibín’s contribution in saying that while...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: All-Island Economy: Discussion (Resumed) (26 May 2015)

Dara Calleary: Ireland's Ancient East. The point is that everything is wild until one reaches the Border or everything is ancient until one reaches the Border. While I acknowledge that the Minister will state it is political and there are cross-Border institutions, where is the push? Where is the impetus and where is the sense of the Irish Government, which is the Government on which one depends, pushing...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: All-Island Economy: Discussion (Resumed) (26 May 2015)

Dara Calleary: I genuinely do not doubt that it is successful. However, I get the sense that the Government is resting on its laurels and is not willing to recast that success. InterTradeIreland is a child of the Good Friday Agreement, which came into force in 1998. It is now 2015 and the world is a very different place. I am of the view that when it comes to cross-Border policy, there is a sense of...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: All-Island Economy: Discussion (Resumed) (26 May 2015)

Dara Calleary: Absolutely. I want to make it very clear that the various agencies are not lethargic. InterTradeIreland's representatives have come before the committee and made presentations to us. Their passion for the job they do is fantastic. The lethargy is at political level in terms of imagining life beyond the Border and in the context of pushing the Border aside. The lethargy to which I refer...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Companies Act 2014 (Section 1313) Regulations 2015: Motion (26 May 2015)

Dara Calleary: I note the Minister stated that Bank of Ireland requested that a certain section be applied to the bank. Was the issue not picked up before Bank of Ireland noticed it? Did Bank of Ireland bring it to the Department's attention?

Written Answers — Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Land Parcel Identification System (26 May 2015)

Dara Calleary: 400. To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine if he will provide an update in respect of the 11,000 appeals that are presently being heard by his Department; his views that these farmers find themselves in an ominous position, in that they do not know what land to include in their 2015 claim; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20252/15]
