- Seanad: Investment Funds, Companies and Miscellaneous Provisions Bill 2005: Motion for Earlier Signature. (28 Jun 2005)
Terry Leyden: I thank the Minister of State for his conscientious approach to this complicated legislation. I thank his staff and senior officials and civil servants, some of whom I know from my previous experience in the Department of Industry and Commerce, for their input. It is an extremely technical Bill and fortunately the Minister of State is well qualified to bring it forward. He was also open to...
- Seanad: Investment Funds, Companies and Miscellaneous Provisions Bill 2005 [Seanad Bill amended by Dáil]: Report and Final Stages. (28 Jun 2005)
Terry Leyden: I thank the Minister of State for bringing this Bill back to the Seanad. The fact he has examined and is including these amendments makes the Bill a thorough one. To his officials I say it is worthwhile to have the Bill as accurate as it can be. I know the Minister of State and his officials are anxious to make it 100% watertight. I commend him for returning the Bill to the House to do that.

Terry Leyden: I wish to express my thanks to Senator Norris for his generosity of spirit in supporting my Registration of Wills Bill 2005. Will the Leader accommodate the Second Reading of this Bill, which is No. 12 on today's Order Paper, in the early part of the autumn session? I thank her, the Government Whip, Senator Moylan, the Government spokesman on health and children, Senator Glynn, and all my...

Terry Leyden: I thank the Cathaoirleach and his able staff, including Deirdre Lane and Jodie Blake, the Bills Office and all those involved for their work. I also thank the Tánaiste who indicated her willingness to engage with this Bill and who will hopefully give it her full support when it comes before the House during the autumn session.

- Seanad: Offences against the State (Amendment) Act 1998: Motion. (16 Jun 2005)
Terry Leyden: On the Order of Business it was agreed that only the spokesperson of each party would speak. The decision of the House cannot be changed. I apologise to Senator Mansergh but I have no choice in the matter.

- Seanad: Morris Tribunal Reports: Motion. (15 Jun 2005)
Terry Leyden: I might sound like counsel for the defence. I welcome the Minister of State to the House and wish to be associated with the expressions of sympathy to the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform, Deputy McDowell, on the death of his mother-in-law, Professor Brennan's mother. I must express a vested interest in tonight's motion because I am nominated by the Garda Representative...
- Seanad: Morris Tribunal Reports: Motion. (15 Jun 2005)
Terry Leyden: I withdraw my declaration. There are 12,000 gardaà and, percentage-wise, a small number have caused difficulties and been investigated by the Morris tribunal. We must also recognise those such as Dick Fallon, Garda Hand and Detective Garda Jeremiah McCabe who sacrificed their lives in the protection of the State. Let us put things in perspective because there is more to the matter than meets...
- Seanad: Morris Tribunal Reports: Motion. (15 Jun 2005)
Terry Leyden: I ask the House to please bear in mind the great service that has been provided by the Garda SÃochána to this State when discussing the situation in Donegal. Certain actions were taken in regard to the unfortunate death of Richard Barron and its unfair and wrong linking to the McBrearty family, as well as the Frank Shortt case. Donegal has had difficulties, but my second cousin was a...
- Seanad: Disability Bill 2004: Committee Stage (Resumed). (15 Jun 2005)
Terry Leyden: Senator Terry's amendment is very reasonable. I know the Minister for State has been more than helpful in bringing forward amendments to this Bill in both Houses. He has been more than open to good suggestions. As Senator Quinn noted, quotas are a good example of setting targets. A quota of 3% seems to be very low in this day and age. If we had a quota of 3% for either men or women, it would...

It is a tragedy for the...
