Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (12 Mar 2015)

Gabrielle McFadden: I do not believe it is appropriate to chastise staff in front of members in the manner that happened a minute ago. As Deputy Patrick O'Donovan said, a mistake was made and everybody makes mistakes. I do not think anybody set out to make a mistake by deciding not to do it.

Public Accounts Committee: Revenue Commissioners Investigation of HSBC Offshore Accounts (12 Mar 2015)

Gabrielle McFadden: I thank the witnesses for coming here. The report refers to 114 individuals mentioned on the disk. It also states that a further 18 individuals are excluded from the inquiry on the basis that they are not resident in the State. Why would somebody give an address in Ireland, even care of a solicitor or accountant, if they were not resident here and had no business here?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality: Conveyancing Survey Results January 2015: Institute of Professional Auctioneers and Valuers (11 Mar 2015)

Gabrielle McFadden: I thank the witnesses for coming in. I hate to admit it, but it is so long since I bought a house that I did not realise the buyer pays for their own solicitor and for the bank's solicitor. I am shocked. Then there is the solicitor for the seller, so there are three solicitors. When did that originate and can the witnesses elaborate on the panel they have suggested might work?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality: Conveyancing Survey Results January 2015: Institute of Professional Auctioneers and Valuers (11 Mar 2015)

Gabrielle McFadden: I am relieved to know that someone would not have to do that for a family home. It is hard enough on a buyer buying a family home. I would love to see this brought down from four and a half months to two. Quite often, I meet families and young couples who are in the process of trying to buy. They always have the dilemma of whether to pay next month's rent. They worry the sale will come...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality: Conveyancing Survey Results January 2015: Institute of Professional Auctioneers and Valuers (11 Mar 2015)

Gabrielle McFadden: A process that now takes three or four days took how long before that?

Public Accounts Committee: 2013 Annual Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General Appropriation Accounts 2013
Vote 13 - OPW
Chapter 4 - Accounting for OPW Agency Services
(26 Feb 2015)

Gabrielle McFadden: I thank the witnesses for coming before the committee. The disadvantage of coming last is many of my questions have already been asked. With regard to flood risk management, the witnesses spoke a lot about coastal flooding. The report mentions 300 areas, 66 of which are connected to the Shannon. In 2009, we were told major works would not be done because they would not be cost-effective...

Public Accounts Committee: 2013 Annual Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General Appropriation Accounts 2013
Vote 13 - OPW
Chapter 4 - Accounting for OPW Agency Services
(26 Feb 2015)

Gabrielle McFadden: Given the number of agencies, there must be one lead. Meelick is not in my constituency, but a man-made cut there, which is overgrown, is affecting my constituency. We cannot get one half of it cleared because it is a special area of conservation and planning permission is required. One is passed from Department to Department because it is not its responsibility. There needs to be one...
